One of our favorite things to do on BIDS is to feature some of our mentors from the past. We've heard from Pete's former commander Erik Kleinsmith and his team boss Gina Smith. This episode features Gunny Q. First, You do NOT mess with Gunny Q, he's retired and will still whup your ass. Second, he was the drill who helped shape Scott into a Marine officer. Actually Gunny Q was Scott's first salute as an officer. It's a sign of respect and we know you'll love hearing how the Marines shape heroes into leaders

Pauline Shanks Kaurin, is a professor at the US Naval War College. That's a mouthful, so we'll say this. Pauline helps teach students, primarily military officers, about ethics in conflict. 

However, that's just the beginning. Host Pete A Turner, who's published on aspects of military ethics while deployed has the unique insight as a scholar, practitioner and multi-tour warrior to ask the questions, to find the gray areas that other shows cannot.

Robert Jacobson's book Space is Open for Business illustrates just how present the space age is. Businesses of all types are looking to move cargo, mine asteroids, provided data and protect the solar system from mankind's impact. 

Sandra Ponce De Leon produces and cohosts this episode of the Break It Down Show with Pete A Turner. Space is a fascinating place, it forces us to be our best, out more ingenious. The advancements made through exploration are improving all of our lives.

Dr Aditya Nagrath joins Pete A Turner on the Break It Down Show discussing the company he founded. Elephant Learning is a math academy. Aditya wanted to create a platform that would help, not only get students caught up, but also open higher-level math to those that crave more. 

Aditya's program creates a foundation that allows kids to learn a year's worth of math in 3 months. The system works because they focus on teaching math as a language.

HTS was an attempt to bring academic research capability to the battlefield. The system's roots reach back to the Vietnam effort to do something similar. Trent Loucks, a US Army LTC deployed as a team leader, then ran HTS as it tried to adapt to the ever-changing demands of modern combat and fickle DOD interests and budgets. 

Pete A Turner is joined by fellow HTS'er John Allen (AKA Lite Beer Panda) as the three compare notes on the program, deployments and what might be next for this dormant capability.

Jon Leon Guerrero and Pete A Turner set up a show with Chris Merrick Hughes. That's always a reason to celebrate, but Chris got sick, so we've rescheduled him...and Jon and Pete did what they do best, they filled the hour talking about music in a way that you're not going to hear on other channels. Gina Smith was Pete A Turner's team chief in Bosnia. Team 15 deployed with a newly minted warrant officer, two E-4's, a Yugoslavian born Navy Bosun's mate and no radio. Sounds like a funny TV show.  

Pete and Gina catch up after 25 years. During that deployment, They both met their future spouses and...and have now raised kids in part because of this deployment. Sure, there are some spy tales, but there's also a hell of a love story. You are going to LOVE this episode as they crack up as they catch up.

Actor, artist, poet, motivator...David Bianchi does it all. When George Floyd was killed, he was inspired to write and perform the poem, I Can't Breathe.

"We've got to be tough enough to listen" We agree, we can take it and David delivers truths that we're forced to reckon with.

Jason Diavatis owns the Loft a wine bar in Benicia, Ca. Our host Pete A Turner wanted to highlight what running a business, and specifically a restaurant, look likes in a small town during a global pandemic. Jason's restaurant is a hit on Benicia's "Main St." The frustration with the challenges, whether it's social media, government restrictions that appear to change from day to day has inspired Jason to action. He's thrown his hat in the ring and is officially running for Mayor of Benicia.

Sometimes we book a guest and for whatever reason, something comes up and we have to reschedule. We booked, Egyptian Lover, and for whatever reason, the session didn't happen. Which happens, so there's no hard feelings.  We'll link up with Egypt when he gets time.
