  • Episode 24: Little Lambs

    Jenny Mathews, Contributing Writer

Little Lambs Foundation For Kids is a local non-profit that focuses on providing essentials and comfort items for children placed in foster care here in Cache Valley and throughout Utah and southern Idaho. Ted Chalfant and his wife Stefanee wanted to do something to give back to the community and had the idea to fill around 50 bags with comfort items for foster kids. As a child Ted’s mother took in children who needed a home and it was her example that inspired his family’s desire to serve the children in our community. After contacting the Department of Child and Family Services and within a very short time, the news of their project spread. They quickly realized the need was much greater than they had originally anticipated.  They rose to the challenge- enlisting the help of the community that now helps to provide these items for over 5000 children per year!

Shauna Thorpe serves on the board and is the director of the Little Lambs Teen Ambassadors program.

  • Episode 23: Erin and TJ Davis

    Jenny Mathews, contributing writer

Erin and TJ Davis are the brains, heart, and fire behind Pickleville Playhouse– the local theater company with its iconic Bear Lake venue.  Pickleville is famous for bringing families together to laugh, cry, hiss, boo and cheer for the last 40 years.

TJ is the talent behind the mustache of the company’s most beloved character, Juanito Bandito.  Juanito’s debut in 2008 was an instant hit and has since become a tradition for families near and far.  The holiday show, Juanito Bandito’s Christmas Carol, marries the shenanigans the outlaw is famous for with the music and “good feels” the holiday season inspires- all in one hilarious, family-friendly experience.

It was love at first sight for Erin when she saw TJ on stage in some geeky glasses and a plaid suit. They both share some tender experiences that led them to this point and give us a peek into what life is like researching, writing, producing, performing, and running the business as well as the busy Davis household.

  • Episode 22: 100 Cache Valley Women Who Care

    Jenny Mathews, contributing writer

Emily Gehring and Brianne Whittaker are two moms who helped to create 100 Cache Valley Women Who Care, a local group of women who gather once a quarter, and, through their combined efforts, donate thousands of dollars to local charities. It’s a simple concept. “Each of us can do a little, and when we unite and compound each person’s small contribution, we can do amazing things.”

The organization has no overhead and doesn’t accept a penny of the donations. At their quarterly meetings, the women nominate and vote on one charity to be the recipient of each member’s contribution for the quarter. The checks are written directly to that charity and lives are changed, for both the givers and the receivers.

  • Episode 21: Sthira Sukha Sisters, Amy Davis and Shelley Dawson

    Jenny Mathews, contributing writer

The Sthira Sukha Sisters are Amy Davis and Shelley Dawson, two friends and local fitness instructors who, about a year ago, decided to share their favorite yoga and meditation principles on Instagram. Little did they know that they would soon be sharing more than just the steady and sweet, but also a journey pain and hope, darkness and light, and most of all, friendship.

In our discussion Amy shares a bit about her cancer and recovery. Through Shelley’s perspective, we see how holding space for things that are hard- cancer, fear, pain, etc., can help us find balance.  We discuss their amazing friendship, finding that balance, and how to “self-care;” each vital for women, parents, and caregivers facing hard things every day.
