    Send us Fan Mail

    For this week, we have the impressive Celia Sandhya Daniels from India to talk about their career and passion to educate, empower, and advocate for gender-expansive individuals in the community and corporate world.  This is PART one of a three-part piece.

    Trigger Warning: This is just a reminder that this episode comes with a content warning. This is simple to empower you, our audience, with the knowledge you need to make healthy decisions about how and if you should consume this podcast content.

    We dive into Celia’s life in five dimensions, Dreaming, Doubt, Denial, Discovery, and Destiny. Firstly, Celia as a child dreamt to be a girl. However, as she was growing up the fear of being bullied forced them to hide their identity. Celia reveals the sexual abuse she encountered and the shame, fear, and trauma she faced alone. We learn of Celia’s doubts about her being a trans-lesbian and violence in 9th grade that is commonly practiced in India. This traumatic experience led Celia to struggle with living and in denial of her existence. Once married, Celia had assumed that being with a wife would somehow "fix" her. Celia eventually began attending therapy where there was a  lack of knowledge on transgender identity. Later she began to discover herself while struggling with gender dysphoria. Today, she is open with her family and finds acceptance. Lastly, Celia shares her destiny, which is to advocate and educate across the world, for an LGBTQIA+ community that holds itself with pride and dignity, where one is valued and has credibility in what they do and speak. The conversation turns to healing from trauma. Celia mentions how the film “Spotlight” and Amita’s project “Mirror Memoirs” of LGBTQ survivors of color in the movement to end child sexual abuse gave them the courage to speak out.
    In our next episode, Celia will share her success in a long-lasting 26-year marriage.  Stay tuned!

  • EP 153 Drag Me To USA German Reality TV Show Feat. Vivienne Lovecraft (PART 2)

    Send us Fan Mail

    Happy Pride Month! For this episode, we have the wonderful Vivienne Lovecraft from Germany who is a non-binary, Filipino Drag Queen and is an activist for the LGBTIQ community. This is Part TWO of a two-part piece.

    Trigger Warning: This is just a reminder that this episode comes with a content warning. This is simple to empower you, our audience, with the knowledge you need to make healthy decisions about how and if you should consume this podcast content.

    The conversation continues around LGBTQIA+ rights in Berlin. Vivienne shares the current laws in place that exclude Trans employees and parents and the lack of anti-discrimination policies especially for those without a “German Pass” such as refugees and immigrants.  The topic brings up the Reality TV show “Drag Me To the USA” that Vivienne starred in and their experience of traveling to America.  With inspiration from the Drag Queen films “The Adventures of Priscilla” & “To Wong Foo”, the TV show had Drag Queens visit various unique places from big cities to small towns in the US that were celebrating Mardi Gras and being Queer. Vivienne shares how magical the experience was and the cut-out behind the scene stories, the concerns they have for the “Don’t Say Gay Bill” and other laws that are being put in place to erase Queer identities in the country. We also learn that in small religious towns that do try to celebrate Queer events, certain “dedicated” hate groups attend to simply disrupt and harass. Vivienne discusses her emotional performance in honor of an Iranian Drag Queen who passed away. The talk brings up Vivienne's ambitions to be a parent, the future of Queer people, relationships with their parents, their chosen family, and so on. Finally, Vivienne shares the pride month color meanings, with a focus on the Orange color that represents healing and leaves us with a message that once we feel healed, is to help others heal as well. And we also join in support of Vivienne's call “Trans Rights for Everyone Now!”

    ~~~
    Vivienne Lovecraft is part of different queer and BiPoC activist groups to create safer spaces and host fundraising events for marginalized groups in the LGBTIQ-Community of Berlin. She loves to create shows, hosts and wants to share her passion for the art of drag with as many people as possible.
  • EP 152 Unveiling Rainbow Resilience: Tokyo Pride March 2023 With Vivienne Lovecraft (PART 1)
    Send us Fan Mail
    Guten Morgen & Happy Pride Month everyone!
    For this episode, we have the wonderful Vivienne Lovecraft from Germany who is a non-binary, Filipino Drag Queen and is an activist for the LGBTIQ community.
    This is PART one of a two-part piece.
    This is the second time Tiffany is celebrating pride with Vivienne, as their first time was in Japan. Vivienne shares their background story, from living with a single mother in the Philippines for 5 years before moving to Germany. After the Berlin Wall fell, the country had a loose immigration law, an incentive to bring more people from around the world in. This is where Vivienne and their mum moved to a rural area in 1994. Growing up with mixed cultures, Vivienne explains the struggles of living in a community with not many Asians and the racism they faced. However, they also appreciate having two cultures where they have learned to adapt and have a unique perspective of the world. Vivienne reflects back on their childhood memories and acknowledges the good and bad that came along with it.  They point out that recognizing our traumas is part of the healing process, as we try to protect the inner child in us to not get hurt again, yet we should not forget our older self, and offer ourselves the chance to live in the present moment. Vivienne shares that their healing process has been one of openness to communication and emotional connection through their art and drag. They mention the power they get from narrating their past trauma through art while being vulnerable which can resonate with others. Even though emotions are sometimes viewed as a weakness, Vivienne thinks otherwise. The discussion delves into Vivienne’s 17-year relationship and what they think is the key to a last longing relationship, the keywords around “transparency” and “communication”. We later learn how Vivienne ended up in the pride event in Japan last year and their views on the LGBTQIA+ rights conversation in Japan from marriage rights to the unfortunate lack of recognition as a whole. Tune in next week to learn what Vivienne's experience as a drag artist is like!
She adds, that even in the absence of law, there are several organizations, and local governments that push to be inclusive and promote acceptance. Regal expresses how impressed she is with today's LGBTQ+ representatives who fight vocally for LGBT rights.     For this episode, we have the impressive Attorney Regal Olivia from the Philippines who is a lawyer, a human rights activist, a fashion icon, a loving parent and the list goes on.  This is PART one of a two-part piece.
    The conversation begins in Mandaue City known as the ‘Gay town of the Philippine's that has a history of supporting the LGBT community.  This city is the first to host a trans pageant, support and fund gay rights advocacy, and pass an ordinance to protect diverse members of the LGBT community. On the topic of success, Regal does not consider herself successful. She believes it's a long road ahead and mentions that it's the people you meet who will define your journey. To her, success comes with contentment and she is happy for the loving and supportful relationships she has. The conversation turns to culture, where Regal shares with us her past visits to Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto, and mentions a sisterhood city in Ayabe, Kyoto. As well as her passion for fashion, Regal wants to let the listeners know the warmth and positivity of the Philippines alongside the most beautiful beaches, women, foods, entertainment, and so on.   • EP 148 "The Winning Speech Evaluation"
    Send us Fan Mail
    This episode is a followup from last week, as Tiffany guides us into the art of public speaking while explaining why evaluations are crucial in developing the impressive skills of speechmaking. For the big portion of this topic, we hear the feedback on Tiffany's speech (which you can find in the previous episode) from the other contestants from the Toastmasters where Tiffany receives reviews from more than ten people!
    Tiffany offers us helpful tips to keep in mind when receiving evaluations. For example, how not be overly critical, to not take feedbacks personally, and how constructive criticism can help us grow and improve as communicators. From Tiffany’s toastmaster speech, the reviews are received with much praise and congratulatory remarks. The feedsbacks included comments such as how they enjoyed the choice in topic, speech structure and self disclosure, how eye opening, resilient, breathtaking, sincere and authentic the powerful personal story as a transwoman in the lens of diversity.
    Moreover, they applaud Tiffany's splendid performance, gestures and her use of vivid and colorful language and so on.  Other critics included wanting more emotional connection from the speech, suggested to have a strong core message in the beginning to connect to the end, adding more humor to the speech, simplifying and speaking more slowly, and much more.
    Overall, the speech was a huge success and everyone who attended were looking forward to seeing more of Tiffany’s public speech!
    Thank you Yumiko for the delightful review! And as always, we thank you for your support and for joining us time and time again! Remember, you are valued and deserve happiness. Keep safe and be kind to yourself with love.
