An arrest has been made in connection with the hit-and-run that seriously injured a 7-year-old child in Sallis last month.

Attala County Sheriff Curtis Pope announced that 44-year-old Lindell Jermaine Carr of Sallis was arrested on November 7, 2025, and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.

Sheriff Pope said that Attala County Investigators Chunn and Hill worked alongside Mississippi Highway Patrol Investigators McBride and Voyles to solve the case.

He also thanked Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace for assisting in locating and recovering a key piece of evidence connected to the investigation.

“Additional charges are expected,” Pope said. “I would also like to thank all the citizens that provided information on this case.”

The United Veterans of Attala County will host the “Aisle of Honor” Veterans Day program Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 11:00.

The event will now be held at the Attala County Coliseum due to the forecast calling for low temperatures.

The public is invited to attend.

This year, veterans in attendance are invited to share their stories/experiences with others at the ceremony.

JACKSON, Miss. — The Mississippi Forestry Commission has declared a high risk for wildfires across the state on Monday, November 10, 2025, urging all residents to voluntarily halt all outdoor burning activities.

In a social media alert posted Sunday evening, the agency cited critically low humidity and high winds as conditions that could cause any spark to spread rapidly and uncontrollably.

Prohibited activities on Monday include:

The Commission emphasized that 9 out of 10 wildfires in Mississippi are human-caused, pleading with residents to delay all outdoor burning until weather conditions improve.

KOSCIUSKO, Miss.–A woman driving an SUV drew the attention of an Attala County deputy Saturday morning about 8:15 on Veterand Memorial Drive near Walmart.

The woman’s SUV was dragging its bumper and the deputy also spotted what looked like debris in the roa.

Kosciusko Police were sent to the scene and while they were on the way the dispatchers got another call confirming it was a two-car wreck.

It was unclear if anyone was hurt and both vehicles involved left the scene before police got there.

McADAMS, Miss.–A two car wreck was reported on Hwy. 12 in front of the McAdams Quick Stop Saturday morning.

The wreck was called in about 8:15 a.m.

When deputies got there they found an expectant mother and called for an ambulance for her to be checked out.

It was unclear if she was actually injured.

The coldest weather of the season is settling in over this part of central Mississippi, with a freeze warning in effect again tonight from 9 pm until 8 am Tuesday.  Locally, lows are forecast in the lower 20s tonight in Philadelphia and in the mid 20s in Kosciusko, Carthage and Durant.   Also, the National Weather Service says dry and breezy conditions will result in an increased danger of wildfires across Mississippi today and Tuesday.
