Why greed can play a factor into success with upselling.

    The greed factor in selling.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

Today I got to see the greed factor in motion I call it the greed factor, I made that up. It's just the idea you probably heard about this before if you're involved with any type of business, is that when people are buying.

They continue to buy when they're in that buying zone.

That's how it's usually understood or explained. I think it's beyond that, and I'll tell you a little story about this because my daughter, Alexandra, just turned five today and her birthday, okay.

We started off the day and had my wife has all these things lined up, you know, the cake and all the rest and we give her her present.

She's just beaming. She just loves this present.

She's just really getting into it probably too into it, you know how kids are. And afterward, she said, Well, I've got this money saved up, She's five years old, right. And our kids, when they're done with their toys, we let them sell them to their friends or sell them online.

So that they build up a certain amount of money. We're trying to teach them how to how to deal with money and also make the mistakes with money as early on as possible, you know, understanding how to spend too quickly and all that.

She has this money, she says I want to get this other thing that goes along with this gift, and I want to do it today. Well, it just so happened that it worked out with our schedule, that we'd be able to go to the town, next town over where some of the larger stores are at and take her in and go have her purchase something else.

But you could see this, it's not as much a buying thing. We always refer to as a buying thing, especially when we're talking about Christmas and so forth.

We say, you know, when a person's buying, they just want to keep buying, they want to keep going they're okay with moving that money.

I think it has more to do with greed. I think it has more to do with that gimme, gimme, gimme concept.

Every time I think about it, I think about the Garfield Christmas special if you've ever seen it, the one from the 80s, where the very beginning of the episode, he's dreaming, and he dreams that John got him, this Garfield I'm talking about, Garfield is dreaming that John got him this machine that reads your mind.

You sit on it and like sitting on a giant robot, Santa Claus, and the Santa Claus hat goes on your head, and it reads your mind.

Whatever you can think of will pop out of this bag, that Santa's bag there and all pop out. It's a machine that does this.

He just keeps thinking and thinking more stuff. And it just more and more and more. So there's no end to it.

There's no end to the to that give me, give me, give me the song goes gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme, gimme.

Everything just keeps coming up and coming up and coming up until he wakes up. But that's the idea about people, there's no end to want. There's no end to greed, but good and bad.

There's just no end to it, it keeps coming, you'll always want more the more you want, the more you want, the more you want.

It's a very interesting phenomenon to see that in motion when a person has tapped into that part of their brain, where they just want more and more and more of the same thin...

  • Trudeau, The Truckers, and You 🚚 🇨🇦 (Freedom Convoy)

    Trudeau, the truckers, and you.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I wanted to talk a little bit about the Canadian freedom convoy thing that's going on, just real quick because it does play back to you and your business.

Now, the situation if you haven't been keeping up with it, there's basically a there has been a convoy going on for the past week or so, in Canada, truckers all over the country and beyond going to the capital city, basically shutting it down by by flooding the streets and many more.

Not just truckers many more have come out to also protest their main form of protesting against the mandates for the vaccines and so forth there. And all the other what's what can be termed as government overreach.

That's all going on there and Justin Trudeau, the Prime Minister has made quite a deal about about how this, this cannot continue that these protests are not legal. They're not right.

It will do everything in its power. Shut it down.

Now, just today. And I believe a little bit of yesterday, I originally heard that they were using the banking powers.

Trudeau was using the baking powers and so forth to shut down payments and transactions between many people throughout the country, including those involved in a protest.

Do they have the legal right the quote unquote, constitutional right, it's a little it's quite different in Canada, for those of you who are more familiar with US law, but do they have the power to be able to do this?

Do they have the right that's that's one question, legal, moral, otherwise, that's something else?

Do they have the power to do it?

Yes, they do, because they're doing.

And this is something that I see coming up more and more and more when it comes to business, the mandates happening all these other things across the world, in the US, Canada, everywhere else, that would be considered a relatively free country.

You see a lot of these things occurring and we can go back and forth about whether it's right or wrong or otherwise.

Whether there's a constitutional right, a legal precedent, and so forth, that we go on, and on and on about that, and I love having those discussions. But right now, I want you to keep an eye on just the ideas, do they have the power to be able to do a whole lot of these things?

I think a lot of a lot of people would have said two or three years ago previous to COVID-19.

That No, no, they can't possibly can't possibly have the power to do this. But now we're learning otherwise, there, there are powers in play one way or the other, whether you for it or against it, there are powers being flexed.

Being shown that they have the ability to do all these things.

Now they're talking about ESG scoring and all these other things are coming up real soon, on an international basis where they will have more and more controls over how money is distributed between people, you can go and look all that stuff up.

But it potentially scary, but it's important for you to understand who has the power. And there is a significant amount of power, a significant amount of ability on behalf of people who can disrupt your business.

How can content marketing help your overall skills?

    Content marketing for personal development?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo. Live.

We talk a lot about content marketing and how you can use it to increase your business, to increase your exposure, to build your personal celebrity, and so forth.

I want to discuss why you do content marketing for you. Because there's a big reason why you go about doing that.

First, I wanted to mention my book, 9 Ways to Amazon-Proof Your Business.

If you want to really build a strategy around content marketing. Content marketing is a great strategy unto itself and there's all these great tactics that go along with it.

But if you want some real principle based, broader strategies, so the reason why you would do content marketing, this is a great place to start, 9 Ways to Amazon-Proof Your Business.

How to make your business, you know, completely bulletproof from the big guys, whoever the big guys are in your industry. Many industries are being attacked, in a sense by amazon.com, that it's important that you pay attention to that type of thing.

So go check out my book, go get yourself a copy, you can also get a free digital copy at AmazonProofBook.com.

Let's talk about personal development, and how doing content marketing can help you with that.

Now, if you can take your ideas, the things that are tied to your business, if you can bend your mind and then say, Why would this matter to somebody else?

Why would this matter to my ideal customer?

Why would this matter to an audience out there, if you can start doing that, that in its in and of itself is personal development.

Just that element of it, to be able to think backwards to you know, walk a mile in the other person's moccasins type of idea. If you can see things from someone else's point of view, that's a huge piece of overall marketing.

Content Marketing allows you to do that on a daily basis, if you're doing it daily, it allows you to do it on a regular basis, though, if you're doing it right.

Content marketing has to be regular, it has to be consistent, it has to go and go and go and go for it to function properly.

If you're doing a lot of online content marketing, that's a great way to keep your head in the game. And to see things from your customers perspective or from your ideal customer or your potential customers perspective, your prospective client, your prospective parishioner your perspective.

Whatever you're looking for whoever you're looking to connect with, the important thing is to see, you already know things from your perspective.

What you have to do is see things from their perspective, and translate what you're thinking backwards to feed to them in a way that they can start wrapping their minds around, and a way that they can get to know you.

So you putting yourself out there, and placing your ideas out there, and organizing your thoughts and organs and organizing, you know what it is that you offer, you know, just putting it out there and explaining it.

This is personal development, this will make you a better salesperson, this will make you a better leader within your organization, especially if you are a leader if you're a business owner, if you're an executive, if you're one of the people in charge,

  • Do I Have To Meet New People? 🙃

Brian talks about the value of being Relationship Reliant in business and in life.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MivHrfr3aRk

    Transcription

Do I have to meet new people?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

One of the things that's become more and more apparent to me over time, is this concept of being relationship reliant.

This is a concept that I learned pretty early on in my business career but didn't really learn it, it didn't really sink in, and it sinks in more year after year after year.

You got to think about this relationship reliant is one of the three pillars of BrianJPombo.com.

It's something I talk about a lot and I still don't think it fully sets in.

A lot of people who see my last video would be asking, you know, why would you just put yourself out there just to meet new people.

I think the real reason is, is because nothing ever changes in your life until you have a connection with the right person, or until the right person you have a connection with, you learn something new about them, or they learn something new about you so that you can go the next level.

So you can take things beyond you know, and I don't mean, just within the relationship, I mean, having it when we're talking business, having that breakthrough, it happens only through one medium and that's people, other people, people you know or people you don't know, that's the those are your only options.

If you don't know them, it's really tough to figure out whether they can help you or not.

Now, if you already know the people that can help you, then all you got to do is move them from column A people you don't know when to call them B people you do know, right?

    It's really that simple.

Nowadays, look, we've got cell phones, we've got a lot of people still have landlines, especially businesses or traditional businesses and people with traditional offices, you've got an email, you've got all the different social medias, which is more than just one, obviously, it goes on and on and on and on.

The You've Got Mail, snail mail addresses, okay, there's just a handful of ways that you can go out and meet people let alone if they're public, and individuals who show up to things, right?

They show up to meetings, they show up to if they're an outgoing person, they may be given a speech somewhere, there are so many ways to get in touch with somebody and meet somebody for the first time.

You may have a connection to somebody that knows that person, and they can introduce you.

Everything in life, every problem you have right now. Besides the real heavy, you know, spiritual stuff, I would imagine some of that stuff is just things you got to it's between you and somebody else.

But in general, I think every problem you have or every problem you think you have, can be solved or eliminated by the right relationship.

Keep that in mind as you're going through the day, and trying to figure out okay, how am I going to get through this?

Or how am I going to fix this problem that I've been having for years and years and years?

You're one person away from fixing it.

Start reaching out, touching base with people who you think might have an answer, or who you think might know the person that has the answer.

Get to know people that you connect with,

    Want to touch base?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

This is one of the most cliche moments I have.

So one of the things, and it's funny because I interviewed Ari Galloper. And he was making fun of people that use this phrase touch base, because it's very cliche, especially within sales and marketing circles.

It's just one of those things that I didn't really know how else to talk about it, because so there's a handful of people that will find my website.

They could be people who are looking to grow a business, they could be people looking to start a business.

Then there's people that they're not, it's something else, maybe they know me from the past, maybe, maybe they'd like to get to know me just as a person, maybe they'd like to see because I'm a Business Investor, it kind of has a very broad appeal. And a very broad base of people that I end up getting to know, especially since my background has been in everything from cattle ranching, to politics to this the mat, I mean, I've done a little bit of everything.

So I have this one section on my website called touch base.

If you go to the website, you go to the menu, you can click on touch base, and it's just a basic form, just to keep in touch with me. And that's all it is.

If you're one of those people that are just looking to touch base, either get to know me, or get reacquaint yourself with me or keep in contact with me go fill that out.

There's no obligation, there's nothing saying that we even have to have a business relationship whatsoever, even though the the website is basically business related and contains my podcasts and everything else.

But it's there for you if you'd like so if you'd like to keep in touch. If you'd like to touch base on some time, go fill out that section is over at BrianJPombo.com/touch-base.

Like I said, you go to the website, go to the menu and you can find it. That's all I've got for tonight. We're gonna be that's kind of the review.

This is the third of a review of the main sections of my website, besides all the media and podcasts and everything else that you could find there.

Tomorrow we'll be back with some of our regularly scheduled programs. And so you have a great one we'll be back then. Get out there and let the magic happen.

    Start Your Business.

Hi, I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

So there are these different sections of my website and there are three main sections, which is kind of how I get in contact with people.

Yesterday, we talked about, you know, growing your business, and where you'd, you'd be able to contact me if you were looking for help with growing your business.

Another area, which is a very specific area, it's a very different type of area, it's starting your business.

So if you have an interest in starting a business, and doesn't matter, even if you have zero ideas of what you would start it over. But you have an idea that you probably would like to go into business, and you'd like to live off from that side of life, as opposed to just get a paycheck all the time, and being an employee.

If you'd like to try that out and see whether you'd be a good fit or not, then I'd love to have a conversation with you.

I do not charge anything to be able to have that conversation but I also make no promises that I can help you whatsoever.

But I do have some tips, I do have some ideas and if it works out, I'm a Business Investor.

So I can help invest in your business, I'll invest time and so forth. I'll show you what it would take for you to be able to do it too. That's if you if you would qualify for that type of thing. It's not for everybody. Business Ownership is not for everybody.

But if you would like to have that conversation, then I'd like you to go to BrianJPombo.com.

Now from there, you can go to the menu and you can type in, you can click on start my business.

Speaking from your perspective, are you going to just BrianJPombo.com/start-my-business.

Real simple for those of you watching, you could see it across the screen. So hopefully that's helpful for you.

That's all I'm going to talk about today.

I'm a Business investor, I have these talks on a regular basis. But sometimes I don't always just give a straight idea for something that you can do right off the bat.

So if you'd like to contact me, it's another great way for you to reach out and contact me and I'd love I'd love to be able to talk with you and see see if there's anything I can do to help. So go check that out.

Tomorrow, I'm going to be talking about the final way that people get in contact with me via my website.

We'll continue talking about strategies, principles and tactics that you can use to grow your business every day and just make your life better.

So we'll be talking about that more in episodes up ahead. But I have nearly 1000 episodes behind me. If you go and check out BrianJPombo.com.

In the media section, you'll be able to see all these see and listen to all these episodes I have at both in audio podcast form and in video form. So go check it out.

We'll be back tomorrow. In the meantime, get out there and let the magic happen.

    Grow Your Business.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

There's some areas that I wanted to cover from this commentary that I got earlier last week.

I wanted to get to that but first, I wanted to cover some areas of my website that you may not have seen it on the front page, and in the menu, there are three significant sections there.

  • How To Be The Boss, When You’re Not The Boss 🤠

Brian responds to a comment from an old video he made a few years back.

    video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HbtNCXVU2Ko

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8t2mdss6eAs

    Transcription

How to be the boss when you're not the boss.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

Today I'm responding to a multiple, it was kind of a multi layered comment from a video I did two years ago, March 4 of 2020, having to do with social anxiety, and networking.

And one of the comments had to do with the fact that they weren't the boss, they weren't the person in charge.

They had difficulty taking charge, they had difficulty taking that next step.

At least, that's how I took the comment and so I'm going to respond to that idea. Because it was a really common thing, especially early on.

When I would go to networking events, I represented a state representative.

I would go to networking events and find it really awkward because I wasn't in charge. I couldn't really promise anything. So where do you go from for some from something like that? Well, you got to take it back to your position.

So whatever position you're in, even if you're not the boss, the boss, per se, you have to find out what you are responsible for. What is your position, what because you are the boss of something, whether you know it or not.

If you're not, you need to find out what that is, you need to find out what you're responsible for. If you're in a job, you just you have to, you have to outline that as best as possible.

Sometimes, you can get yourself into a position where they don't want to do that.

They don't want you to be necessarily specifically responsible, if you're in a government position. That's a common area where people just don't, they don't want to, they don't want the responsibility of giving you responsibility.

This can happen in this gonna happen in larger corporations. These are those types of situations that you should eventually, if you're craving being in charge, then you need to find either a way to work within that system or you need to spit yourself out.

You need to find your own thing you need to go out and start something on the side, give yourself is, this is the funny thing is you can make yourself boss any day you want.

You don't even have to quit your job or anything else. If you go and start a business on the side. Nobody can stop you from doing that.

Okay, you may have local regulations in terms of you know, licenses and so forth, you may have a business license that you have to fill out, you may have to register your business name it all depends on where you're at what country you're in the circumstances could be easier or less easy.

But in general, it's not that difficult to a business is an idea. And all you have to do is put yourself out there and say this is what I'm doing.

And poof, you've got a business.

These are this is not a super complicated idea. So you can make yourself boss within employment. Another side thing you can do within the employment and is look at the possibility of becoming a contractor versus a direct employee.

This literally makes you at least in America allows you to set yourself up as a sole proprietorship.

Thoughts on getting yourself back in motion and in the swing of things after a layoff.

    Do something dumb.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I'm coming out of this Omicron stuff for whatever it is in the air, and it's a slow progression out of it because I still have a little bit of a scratchy throat.

Other than that, I feel fine.

Still a little bit tired here and there too, which is a weird, a weird sensation for me, I'm not usually that rundown, but coming out of it.

At the same time that I'm coming out of it, I noticed that there's a lot of people that are kind of in their first initial dip off of the new year.

Everyone gets kind of gets the ball rolling to get out there and meet the new year and they've got their, you know, all their goals and everything else set.

It's the first you know, we're at least at the time of this recording, which is in early February. We're at a point where it's like, at that point where a lot of people haven't been able to hit their goals, where they're kind of at a low point.

And it's like, oh, now what he and I wasn't able to do what I wanted to do type of thing. And they're not on track.

It's tough to get back on track, it's tough to get things moving. And sometimes the simplest thing to do is just something backing away from the initial goal and just getting out there doing something stupid.

Just doing something silly and just doing something just do anything. Just to get in the moment of the movement of doing again.

I was taking a look at this book. This is one I've brought up a few times here, keep going by Austin Kleon. And in his chapter on, Forget The Noun Do The Verb, he's got a pretty good quote here is from Sala wit, he said you must practice being stupid, dumb, unthinking, empty. Try that, then you will be able to do try to do some bad work.

The worst thing that can that the worst thing you can think of and see what happens. But mainly relax and let everything go to hell.

You're not responsible for the world, you're only responsible for your work.

So do it and it's just something to that about, just let it fly.

Just get out there and just get back into motion, wherever you're at if you just need to keep going. Because like as title says, get out there, just start moving. And don't get caught up in doing something exactly right.

Or perfectly, or hitting the entire major goal.

    Just start the process.

If you start the process, I think you'll be happy with the results in the long run.

First, it takes the doing and the energy of doing. It's an interesting concept.

It's so subtle and so simple, but it's one of those things that can still escape us from time to time when we get off our path.

The only way to get back on isn't to be super strong, but to ease yourself back into the process. So hopefully that's helpful.

  • Do Business Names Matter? 😕

Just how important is the name of your business anyway?

    Do business names matter?

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

For those of you listening, I have on the screen here a picture of the head of Facebook, when he introduced the new name for the entire company as being Meta. And instead it says Feta.

It's a play off of words but it also brings up the idea of how silly and how outrageous people were getting over this name.

Whether it was a good name or a bad name, whether it meant the beginning of something completely new, or the end, as we know it of Facebook.

It's an interesting concept but it brings me back, it's a thing that I get pulled into a conversation I get pulled into, especially with people starting new companies, where they really spend all a lot of time on the name.

A name can be important, but not for the same reasons that you probably think many times the name is they people go after a name that has a uniqueness or a goofiness to it, or I remember in the late 90s and early 2000s when everyone was trying to emulate Yahoo, and all these companies that had come out with these, these names that were not traditional.

Remember when Google came out, that was a very nontraditional name, but it was very instyle for them. It's like, just come out with something wacky and goofy and something that's memorable.

But it's also spelled funny, you know, and I don't see the value. Honestly, I think what Google brought to the table and the reason why Google Yahoo, in the long run when it came to the search engine game, it's because they had a better product. Plain and simple.

People went to Google because Google had a better product, and they to this day has the best search engine available in terms of just pure search, pure search going to where you want to go now there are people that are coming out with some pretty good search engines now.

Ones that are based on different algorithms that and not as in some that aren't as political and aren't, as, you know, maybe aren't as advertising heavy and things of that sort. So there's a there's a lot of options out there.

Now, I don't want to make this a conversation about search engines. But the search engine battle really shows you how names don't really matter.

They matter in a sense that here's one sense they do matter. They matter in a sense, in areas where if you are trying to get a point across about what it is that you bring to the table that unique your unique selling proposition. If you can find a way to tie that into your name, then you've crossed a huge hurdle that most people take forever to get through.

That is making it very clear about what it is that you offer right off the bat if you can do that with a name. That is the best use of a name I've ever seen.

There are a lot of examples out there and you could think of well even something like Kentucky Fried Chicken. It very simple straightforward said what it is to this day, it's still pretty much means the same thing.

Even though it means something more because it's going beyond just that original recipe and it's something much bigger, which is why they switched it to KFC and so forth, I imagine. But the name said it, it said what it was you either wanted it or you didn't want it and you can move on.

Those type of names I think is the most powerful, those names that really just say what they are. Those are great.
