    Another writing tip, get real.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I'm still here in Seaside Oregon, having a great time.

As a business investor, I've kind of built a life where I can have a little bit of lease a little bit of time freedom to or location freedom, I should say, and being able to go just about anywhere.

So it's a lot of fun being able to bring my family up north for a few days, I was looking kind of at some of the things, simple ideas when it comes to writing posts, social media, posts, emails, anything that's going out there on a regular basis when it comes to content marketing.

I think that there's some very simple ideas that aren't talked about enough. And one of them was what I discussed yesterday, so you want to make sure you watch or listen to that one.

But the one today, I just wanted to talk about being real.

I'm not just talking about being authentic, which a lot of people talk about, you know, about just being yourself and just give off the best qualities of yourself as possible.

    That's all great.

I think the real thing is being real with your language.

So write like you talk as best as possible. And still make it to where it's, you know, understandable to your ideal client, your ideal market that you're trying to reach.

I think that's the reality that you really need to find, obviously, you want to be yourself, if you can add personality into it. That's great. That's a big piece of being real.

But really just writing like you talk once again, we discussed Gary Halbert yesterday, if you go and check out any of his writings online, you get a feel for who this guy was pretty early on, depending on what you're reading.

But it doesn't take much to where you just start saying, Okay, I'm getting a feel for who this guy is. He was very upfront without talking all that much about himself.

He was talking about a specific subject, but the way in which he did it, you got to know who he was, which is a huge piece in trying to get people to come back again and again, to read your stuff to read your material to watch you listen to you, however it is that you present yourself.

So quick idea, simple, subtle, but something you really ought to pay attention to. And you ought to have other people read your stuff, or listen to watch your stuff and see if they think it really fits who you are.

If it comes off genuine in that sense, not just genuine and character and authenticity, but genuine as to really the characteristics of who you are, if that makes sense.

So that's all I have for tonight. You have a good one. We'll be back tomorrow.

Go check out my book, 9 Ways to Amazon-Proof Your Business you can get a free copy at AmazonProofBook.com You have a good one. We'll be back tomorrow.

In the meantime, get out there and let the magic happen.

  • Email and Social Media Writing Tip ✍️

Brian talks about a tip on writing he learned from Gary Halbert's teachings.

Email and social media writing tip.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

Got a real quick one for you today.

I'm kind of at a distance here. I'm out in Seaside Oregon, just visiting, I've never been up to the northern Oregon coast.

So we're kind of doing a little expedition, a quick expedition while we're out of town and having some fun.

It's been a lot of fun so far got the whole family with me. I want to talk about this is a tip you can use I mean, I specifically am saying email and social media. This could be used across the board, anywhere that you're doing writing.

So this includes even if you're writing for physical literature that you know, a book or anything else.

Here's a huge recommendation that I think I first heard from Gary Halbert, and I've heard multiple people say it says that I've heard a lot of people attributed their use of this technique also.

    Back to Gary Halbert.

Gary Halbert was a very amazing marketer and copywriter who passed away years back, but some of his ideas are so simple, yet so brilliant.

I'm surprised more people don't take advantage of ideas just like this one.

I'm going to share it with you. Okay, so it's so easy.

Since I was a kid, I always tried to learn the rules of grammar. And one of the rules that I never had anyone seriously layout for me is, at what point do you separate paragraphs?

So silly idea, really, it's an extremely subjective thing. And maybe there is an official definition of what should separate paragraphs and I've heard people say, if you have quotes, and you have people talking to each other, then every time that they talk, that needs to be separate every time someone else says something that needs to be a separate paragraph to be able to break up the different people talking.

That is one of the only things I've ever heard about official things. When it comes to English, American English grammar, in the separation with paragraphs, except for this thing that Gary Halbert said.

Gary Halbert, very simply said, and I'm putting in my own words, I don't have the Gary Halbert letter or whatever it was where I officially heard it or read it.

But he basically said, separate everything into as many paragraphs as possible, and break it up. It keeps people reading along. It pulls everything together, it doesn't mean you take every single sentence and make a separate paragraph.

But you'd almost be better off doing that. Right?

It really means keeping your paragraphs as small as possible and keeping that process going.

If you ever try this, if you ever see this done, go and take something that you've written that are in larger paragraphs, and then break it up a little bit, print both of them out or put them side by side.

You ask anybody which looks like more fun to read, which looks like an easier read, which do they want to read first, they will always choose the one with the small paragraphs, even though it extends out. It makes the whole idea longer.

The fact that you have that it really does make a huge difference. It makes readability. Readability increases a lot.

Just by doing that one simple thing.

  • Reversing Victimhood 🇺🇦 (Ukraine Fights Back)

Brian talks about the power of reversing victimhood.

    Reversing victimhood.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I'm a Business Investor, and we have a lot of talks here about business. Both the idea of being a business owner, and also being executives, just the kind of the people who are in charge and how you get there, how do you how do you?

How do you stay happy there and how do you have a more fulfilling life?

I talk about the principles, and the strategies and the tactics necessary to be able to grow and go the next step. And I want to talk about reversing that victim mentality, reversing that victimhood concept, because it's everywhere right now.

It seems to be I have not seen a person who who claims victim mentality who claims victimhood, who sits in that space, who isn't troubled, and going the wrong direction.

I don't think there's any other way around it see, being a victim, the way I see it, in the most real sense. If you're a it's more of an event, it's the circumstances surrounding an event.

So if I get my car stolen, I'm the victim of car theft. It's the reference of me having something being done to me, in a specific event, I'm a victim of a hurricane, if a hurricane comes and knocks through my house, there's nothing that can be done about it.

There's not a whole lot that can be said about it. I mean, obviously, if someone steals your car, there's legal issues and everything else, but it doesn't change who I am, until I adopt victim as part of my personality, part of my characteristic, part of the way that I how I refer to myself, in a sense.

If you see yourself as a victim constantly, it will do no good for you ever. There's no way to claim being a victim and to come out a winner anywhere in life.

    You can't.

It's the opposite. It's a part of the human condition but when you find yourself in that space, of being a feeling like a victim.

That's really what it comes down to, feeling like a victim when you feel that somebody has done you wrong, it doesn't matter whether they did you wrong or not.

The feeling is what destroys you, and takes all your power away.

I'll tell you what, why this got brought up, I had mentioned that I'm part of a book club. We are currently it's a deep dive book club. It's very interesting, where we literally will read one chapter for two weeks at a time, and then discuss it both in a Facebook group and a live Zoom meeting that we have.

Right now we're reading, thinking grow rich, and we are on chapter two. If you've never read this book, there's that very interesting story, where the author Napoleon Hill, his son, Blair was born.

He has no years, he came out he had no ears at all. There is no mechanism for hearing inside his head and something inside Napoleon told him that doesn't mean he needs to not be able to hear.

That something told him that he should be able to raise his son relatively excuse the term normal. He could raise him as if he could hear. He shouldn't have to have if anything, he challenged himself to believe that this might be an advantage.

That something that most people would see as a disadvantage could actually be an advantage.

And he believed it so much. He didn't come right out and say it but then he started helping to raise his son with that point of view that this is actually an adva...

    Is propaganda marketing.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

This is a very interesting time to be doing any type of media whatsoever. Because when there is when there are world events that kind of grab you and shake you and kind of put everybody talking about the same things, it that makes it an interesting time.

Whether you've been through that some at some point in your life, or whether you are going through that right now or going to see that, again, I'm recording this during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

I'm going to tell you some really interesting things that I've been seeing now, I've always been a student of different types of news media, and watching how they work and watching how they manipulate and change things around and how different sources say things completely different ways, giving you a completely different impression about what actually happened.

There are very few sources that have any sense of nonbias whatsoever or trying to present any type of nonpartisan idea.

They just don't exist anymore, at least during this current period of time.

It has amazed me, so this Ukrainian invasion, it's affects our family, because of my wife I've mentioned before my wife was originally from Ukraine. She still has family back there. And we're in communication with them, finding out from their perspective what's going on.

But also make sure they're still alive, you know, so forth.

But at the same time, it's caused her to watch anything she'd get her hands-on in terms of news. So we've looked at every live streaming news station that's available on YouTube or anywhere else. Just trying to find anything we can and see what they are saying and see what they're showing.

Overall, you get a very common perspective of what is going on, which is unusual.

In most cases, it's unusual to find something like CNN, Fox News, saying basically the same thing, that this was an unprovoked attack, and so on, so forth.

But you'll always find an exception to the rule.

I found that a very interesting exception.

It's called RT, for Russian television.

And it is the American version. So it is a station that is put together, specifically by the Russian government, to give their perspective, and this is specifically for Americans.

So it's in English. And so if you aren't American, you'll appreciate this.

But they also have different versions for different countries and different nationalities.

So you can find your version, watch that if you're somewhere else.

But so amazing, because they have given a completely opposite idea.

A lot of the specifics may be very similar in watching it. But then if you're watching it or listening to me years ahead in the future it'd be tough to go back and see this, but you really ought to do this when it comes to news media when it comes to worldwide events that everyone's watching.

This is one of those scenarios that everybody is watching, everyone's paying attention.

Everyone kind of has an idea of what's going on. And to have them come out and say completely different things.

    Like, for example,

Caring too much about others thoughts.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

We've had some weird episodes lately. This is another one.

So this is a conflict, this is confession time, okay, I'm going to tell you the secret of one of my worst vices that I've had most of my life. And the reason why I'm going to go through this is for one, it gives you a chance to get to know me better.

Number two, I'd love to find out from you what your worst vices that you'd be willing to admit, here on the internet.

Three, I think that if you have anything similar and can see it about yourself, that your life can only get better by noticing it by just watching it. And not not seeing it as something that should be normal.

So here's the issue that I've had most of my life, most of my life, I have been worried too much about what other people think. And specifically what they think of me.

If you go back in time, and you look at the string of my life, I was always drawn to things that appeared to allow people to like me more.

So this really weird thing. And I'm not going to go deep into the psychology of why that is and everything else. But so very early on, I realized I really liked acting, and specifically comedic acting. I wanted to do that.

I mean, very, very, very young, probably second, third grade, I decided that was what I was going for. And it was my main focus.

For the next 10 years or so of my life, or longer, I made it was quite a while before that dropped off. But that was that was what I was going to do. And there were other things that I would get pulled this way or that or that.

    But that never went away.

Early on, it was always the major focus whether I voiced it to others or not, that was always what I was into.

A whole lot of that came from this insecurity of wanting other people like me. Because I really liked people like Bill Cosby, you know, I'm talking about the 80s, in the early 90s, Bill Cosby and these comedians that were just flawless on the outside, from what you could tell, and everybody liked them, and everybody laughed at them.

It was just it was a very interesting circumstance that I got caught up in.

And I kept going with that idea over and over again. Eventually, I saw that it was an issue. I stepped away from that whole acting bit and only entertainment stuff I walked away from that always fell back into some form of entertainment, in the business world that I don't dwell into.

But, of course, where's it ends up taking me to a world of marketing eventually, of all things.

Don't think the irony isn't lost on market is that is the science of getting into other people's thoughts and trying to understand, understand them and convince them to think otherwise or to convince them to think towards you or your product and so forth.

It's really funny that I ended up in that place for a long time.

It's something that I've seen about myself over and over and over again, the things that I was really drawn to, were those things that allowed me to act without worry about what people thought of me.

The better I've gotten at those things over time, the less than that part of me has held on because it's a horrible situation.

Russia Invades Ukraine and your business.

Welcome back to Brian J. Pombo. Live.

I'm Brian Pombo, this is a very interesting story because it hits home a little bit.

I've mentioned before, my wife, Kate was born in Ukraine, and still has family back there. And so watching this is really interesting. I mean, she has family right in Kiev, and watching a lot of this go on is pretty heavy.

So this is being recorded. I'm recording this the night that the invasion while the morning over there, that the invasion is occurring. Watching is pretty, pretty wild stuff.

I'm not going to get into the politics of the situation. Not here, you're always welcome to ask me personally. But you can imagine where we're kind of what we're thinking about this.

But I want to bring it back home, because this is a conversation that we've had with her family for years, really going back and certainly the last few months, attempting to impress the idea that there may be a reason for an emergency in the future. You may want to be prepped for anything.

I don't know, it kind of seems like the way the world's going right now.

That we might I would predict within the next 10, 20, 30 years, we'll probably be seeing more and more outrageous situations, social, political, economic situations that we haven't seen, that most of us have never seen in our whole lives.

We've lived through the last 40 years, 50 years or so, of relative peace, harmony, economic gain, and so forth throughout certainly United States, most of the western world, and a good portion of the world.

I think a lot of that's going by the wayside.

This is just a sign of the times, it's just my own perspective on things.

I'll give it to you from this way, I host a show called, The-off-The Grid Biz Podcast.

The whole point of the show is to discuss being self-reliant.

Specifically, businesses that surround the Self Reliance industry.

So everything from raising, you know, teaching people to raise chickens, and all the way to emergency preparedness. I mean, we really run the gamut and we talk to people of all different political persuasions and everything else.

So it's a great show you go check it out, offthegridbiz.com.

But the main point of it is really being self reliant and a huge piece, a huge chunk of our audience are people who are into preparedness of some sort.

No, we're not talking hardcore prepper or necessarily, you need to go join a militia or anything like that. But just being prepared for just general emergencies.

It could be a natural disaster.

It could be something of more political nature, like somebody invading you.

I've got my tea here tonight, just to keep me warm. It's a cold night on top of everything else.

It's one of those things that is really important to me, that people at least have a minimum amount of preparedness for anything that could possibly go wrong, especially if you have family and so forth.

This was something we were trying to impress upon our family in Ukraine. And it's really easy to fall into. This is the way things have always gone.

    That normalcy bias,

    Content Marketing for big companies.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I'm a Business Investor we talk business from the perspective of business owners and executives, people in charge, and I came across this article, I've got a link to it in the description regard.

Depending on where you're watching or listening to this, you can always check it out at my website, BrianJPombo.com. This article was from the SearchEngineJournal.com, and was written by Heather Campbell.

The name of the article is, 7 Big Enterprise Content Marketing Strategies You Need To Know.

And I just wanted to review it real quick, give you a little bit, it's a great list that she's put together here. I wanted to kind of review it and give you kind of my take on each of her points here real quick.

Step number one that she has, is to bring SEO in house.

So SEO for those of you who forget these acronyms, search engine optimization, okay.

But one of the big pieces that she talks about early on in the article is that organic traffic accounts for 53% of all website traffic.

Now, I'm not quite sure where they got that from and that could really vary normally, between websites. I know some websites don't get hardly any organic traffic, and they have so much paid traffic, it's unbelievable.

But let's just say that that is a general idea and that everybody needs more organic SEO, that's fine.

If you're going to do that you really probably ought to have somebody in house, especially if you're in a larger company, and you have large amounts of money coming in from the content that you're putting out there.

Having somebody on staff really is helpful, and somebody that can you know specialize in that type of thing. It's a great idea.

Step number two, she says is include SEO at all stages of the content process.

    Here's what she says.

She says, be sure to include SEO education for your social team, your content writers or developers, whoever may have a hand in creating the content for the site. And ensure that all marketing team members have a solid understanding of SEO.

So the idea is that everyone that's involved in making that content has an idea about what they're doing so they're not fighting each other and everything else.

If you've got an SEO team on board, or an SEO person in house, they should be the ones kind of in charge of making sure that everyone else is on top of those things, especially if you have a good size team.

Number three, step number three, expand your competitor list.

So you've got an idea of who your main competitors are. But the real question is, who are all of your competitors?

    Who are you competing for?

And she makes a great point here of, who are you competing for throughout your buyers journey?

So who are you competing for in terms of content, who are the other people that are going to be competing for content competing for eyeballs and ears, and everything else when it comes to content online.

    That's a really good point.

That a lot of this comes back to having that one on one relationship with your customer,

Instagram time limits, and your business.

Hi, I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

Today we're going to talk about the recent news. If you haven't heard about it, what happened is that Instagram has come out. And well, let's rewind a little bit and get you up to speed here.

Instagram, a while back came out around the same time, I believe Facebook did at the same time, they're owned by the same company, which we call meta now.

They came out at the same time and said, Listen, we understand that people are addicted to social media.

What we're going to do is make it easier for you to get off of your addiction, so to speak, um, I'm not using I'm not quoting that verbatim, but they said that we're going to show you how you can back off.

We're gonna allow you to set a timer on our apps to keep from being on there too long, right?

Well, they put it out there. Eventually, I'm not sure if it was right off the bat, or eventually, they had offerings for 10 minutes and 15 minutes, and 30 minutes and beyond.

    Here's what they found.

Somebody in the company found out that this is causing issues and they've quietly gotten rid of the 10 and 15-minute options.

Okay, yeah, think about this, What's the problem with this?

There's a whole there's a whole litany of issues from their business perspective, how does it affect you as a business in terms of them a lot, only allowing people 30 minutes that well, allowing people to only limit themselves to 30 minutes, meaning that reasonably.

A, you could say that a certain amount of people are going to be on Instagram longer, right?

If you make money from Instagram, or is there any chance you're going to see any of that change?

I doubt it, I highly doubt that that extra 15 minutes is going to make a change in your Instagram posts and likes and everything else that you all the all the things that you get from Instagram, even if you are just covering it, you're there 24/7, but I'd love to hear it.

If you found that a huge boom, in recent days and weeks, because of this change, I'd love to hear about it.

I'd love to hear about how you know it comes back from that particular item. But here's what you could learn from it.

I want you to learn from Mark Zuckerberg mistakes, okay, and I'm using him because he's the, He's the face that we relate back to it.

I don't know if it had anything to do with him but here's the first thing, as soon as you go down that road, and do it admit that what you have is an addictive substance.

I mean, look at what the tobacco companies did, when they, when they start to, hey, we know what we're selling you is horrible. And we're going to do everything we can we're gonna put money into, you know, addiction programs, and we're going to, we're going to fund this and fund that. I mean, once you start joining in the crowd with saying that your product or service is bad for people, or has the potential to be bad for people.

That's a tough, tough thing to balance.

I can't imagine being in a situation where I would ever want to do that. I think it's a mistake. I think it was a mistake on their part.

Not that it wouldn't be true but I think it's a mistake to j...

  • How To Find Opportunity 📚🎙️ (Zig Ziglar Quote)

    When preparation meets opportunity.

    How to find opportunity.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

I apologize for the all those of you who are watching, you may notice my red eyes. It actually occurred because we have these regulations.

In Josephine County, I'm in Josephine County of Oregon. And we have these regulations which pertain to air quality.

They have burn days and non burn days, there has been a long string of non burn days. And so today was a burn day. And so everyone decided that they needed to burn what needed burning, we kind of live out in the country. So we have a lot of stuff that and we're a heavily wooded area.

Everyone's got a lot of stuff that needs to be burnt. I know, it would be odd depending on where you live, but because of that, including ourselves, also burning our pile. And so because of that, I've got the red eyes and for no other reason.

So I want to talk about opportunity today.

And when I think of opportunity, I think of this quote, and it's been attributed to a million different people.

One of the most common ones I've heard attributed to is Napoleon Hill. And he may have said something similar.

But this quote, really came from Zig Ziglar, who said, "Success occurs when opportunity meets preparation."

That's always been one of my favorite quotes. And it's been read quoted, Denzel Washington has a quote out there that's similar, that's based on luck.

A lot people say, when people are lucky, and he has the same idea is no opportunity meeting preparation. And that really is what opportunity needs.

Because really, there's opportunity everywhere. If you're a business owner, if you're the type of your entrepreneurial type, you probably see opportunity way too many places.

If you're anything like me, you can't stop but find opportunities, they're just kind of everywhere, they're constantly throwing themselves at you.

You have to get really good at saying no to opportunity.

Whereas many people go through their whole life without really sensing any opportunity whatsoever.

How do you go about sensitive, you got to be prepared for it. And there's different ways to be prepared for it. I'll give you an example is when I was in, I was living in Chico, California, going to college, and was just in a really bad situation to where I had gotten stuck there a bit because I had plans with some other people.

All of them fell through identity, but I want to be there. But because of these plans, we thought we were all going to be living there. And, and a lot of us were going to be going to college, and so on so forth.

All these things, one thing after another fell through for me. So I was in a situation where I was prepared in a sense of knowing I needed a different direction, or knowing that there must be a different direction waiting for me because so many things had gone wrong.

Because of that I had something that came into my life that completely changed my life took me into a world of business that I've never quite left. And I'm to this day be the reason why I'm here with you is because of that situation.

That was a very certain type of preparation for a very certain type of opportunity.

Now I have another friend who I just recently heard him talking about how he had gone thr...

    How to Find inspiration.

Hi I'm Brian Pombo, welcome back to Brian J. Pombo Live.

Where the things that a lot of us look for, as business owners and executives, we look for inspiration on what the next move will be or how to come out to overcome a certain problem.

This quote from Pablo Picasso, I saw this come up and I had to comment on it, he says, "Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working."

    That is so true.

I had to bring it up here and it should be more of a reminder than anything else.

If you aren't aware of it, then you need to pay closer attention. Because if you think about all the times that you were inspired, it's while you were already in motion.

I found that meditation in motion have to go together in some sense. So you have to be able to have perspective, but you can't have it while doing nothing.

Yeah, I mean, you might be able to achieve something by sitting on the top of a mountain, meditating away from everybody, but you're going to achieve much more when you're in the thick of it.

You step back, and are able to pay attention and get inspiration.

In some other form, you have to be in the process. That's when the greatest pieces are going to come to you is when you're in the process.

It's not when you're away from stress, when you're in the stress. It's not when you're lost in the stress, when you're totally worked up.

Either depressed or angry or upset, it's after that it's when you're in the muck, but you're not consumed by it, if that makes any sense.

So you have to be around it, you have to have the stress out here. But if you keep it out of here, inspiration will come, it's guaranteed and will it won't come on your time.

It won't come when you want it.

It's the thief in the night concept. You know, it shows up when you least expect it.

But you'll get it because you're in motion because you're attempting to go somewhere. Attempting to achieve something. Even if what you're attempting to achieve and where you're attempting to go is complete folly.

You will get inspiration on what the next step should be where the next step that you should go. You have to be willing to listen.

That's the main thing and you can't expect it to pop up. When you're doing nothing when you're nowhere and you have no really sense of journey. If you want to say so, get moving, get active start moving in a direction you think is the right way.

Inspiration will come to slap you around really send you in the right direction. If you pay attention, and you listen. So hopefully that helps.

You know it's little esoteric ideas. I like to pop out there once in a while and see, see if it helps anybody. If you're looking for more broad based ideas to kind of encourage inspiration, I recommend my book, 9 Ways to Amazon-Proof Your Business.

It really tosses a whole bunch of different ideas out there to see what's gonna stick, see what interests you and I also give you other sources that you can look into after this is more of a starting block for some of these ideas, whether you're familiar with them or not, or consider them for your business before or not.
