Joy to the World

"Joy to the World" stands out as the most popular Christmas song of the 20th century, but what makes it amusing is that its origin in 1719, by Isaac Watts, had nothing to do with Christmas! In a world as fractured as ours, singing "Joy to the World" might seem a tad naive. Nevertheless, when we grasp the idea that worshiping constitutes our most potent rebellion against the pervasive evil in our world, we discover a profound power capable of lifting us from the deepest pits of despair.

Few things help prepare our hearts for Christmas like classic Christmas Carols. "Go tell it on a mountain" is a song that was born amidst the horrors of slavery. In the face of difficult circumstances Christ can be both our hope and light. When He lifts us out of despair and darkness, the natural overflow of our walk with God is to "Go tell it on a mountain." Join us this Sunday as we spend time in Scripture, this classic carol, and hear a testimony from Dylan Lightbourn. 

So often in life we struggle, flail, fight and wrestle our way forward. As a gift of Grace, and for His glory, in the middle of the mess God whispers "come to me." The love of God can be our source of inner strength. The love of God is expansive and deeper than we could ever know.
