Matthew 5:7

The original audience of the Sermon on the Mount was filled with people who were uncertain about life and, in that uncertainty, tried to find fulfillment by pursuing their own desires. Not much has changed since then. We often find ourselves chasing happiness. However, Jesus teaches us that we aren't to fill our lives with our own pursuits but are happy when we "hunger and thirst for righteousness." Join us this week as we explore how happiness can be found when we allow ourselves to be filled by Christ's righteousness.


Matthew 5:6

When the Jews were uncomfortable under Roman occupation, Jesus told them that the "meek would inherit the earth." These strange words carry the same weight today as they did 2000 years ago. Happiness is not found in the fight. Happiness is not found in strength. Happiness comes when we place our lives in the hands of the Living God. Jesus taught that "Happy are those who mourn, for they will find comfort." Indeed, Happiness is not found through simply positive thinking or through avoiding difficult feelings and emotions. When we face our grief we discover the heart of God. Over 100 years ago sociologist Max Weber first wrote about the "Protestant Work Ethic." He made the case that much of the progress seen in society can be accredited back to a shift in thinking about God and the world during the Reformation era. Today as a society we can struggle with seeking after instant gratification, entitlement , laziness, and work without overarching purpose. This week Pastor Ryan digs into the book of Proverbs and we will discover that our "work matters to God and God matters to our work."
