Host Clarence Boone speaks with Jim Sims, who is running for a four-year term as an incumbent on the Bloomington Common Council as an at-large council member. He is one of six candidates vying for three at-large seats in the May 7, 2019 Democratic Party primary. Other at-large candidates are Vauhxx Booker, Jean Capler, Matt Flaherty, Andy Ruff, and Susan Sandberg.
Jim Sims is a former President of the Monroe County Branch of the NAACP and an original anchoring voice for Bring It On!

Hosts Clarence Boone and Cornelius Wrights speak with Renée Baker and Dr. Terri Francis, Associate Professor and Director of the Black Film Center/Archive, about the screening of the 1930 silent film “Borderline”. Renée Baker created an original score for the film and will host a Q&A session after the screening of “Borderline”. The screening will occur on Wednesday, April 24 at 7:00 PM in the Wells Screening Room, located within Indiana University’s Wells Library, and is this event is hosted by the Black Film Center/Archive.

Dr. Nelms will launching his book as part of the IU Bicentennial Well House Series on Tuesday, April 30, from 3:30 to 5:00 PM in the Georgian Room of the Indiana Memorial Union (900 East 7th Street).
Part Two:
The Monroe County Black Democratic Caucus and the Bloomington Black Strategic Alliance will host two forums this upcoming weekend. The first event will feature mayoral, at-large city council and city clerk candidates. The second forum will feature candidates from Bloomington’s six city council districts. Each forum will focus on issues facing the black community and the community at-large.
When: 3-5 p.m. April 13 and 14.
Where: Lighthouse Community Church at 850 E. Winslow Road.

They are then joined in the second half of the program by Nina Lorez Collins, daughter of the accomplished author and filmmaker, Kathleen Collins. Nina Lorez Collins will be reading excerpts from “Notes from a Black Woman’s Diary”, a new collection of writings by her mother Kathleen Collins and hosting a screening of Kathleen Collins’ masterwork film, “Losing Ground”, on April 3 in the Wells Library Screening Room.
