The British Labour Party is threatening to vote against Brexit's Great Repeal Bill unless significant changes are made. At stake could be workers' rights in Britain falling behind those in the EU; incorporating the European Charter of Fundamental Rights into UK law and limiting the scope of so-called 'Henry VIII powers', which could allow the government to alter legislation with minimal scrutiny. This is a bicentennial year for Jane Austen, the author of the classic novels Persuasion, Emma, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, and Northanger Abbey. Austen died aged 41, on July 17th 1817, and two centuries on she remains one of the world’s most popular authors. Her life will be marked with a series of events around the world - as well as on the face of Britain's new ten pound note.
