Have you ever read the Bible all the way through? Yes, even the hard parts. If you have, then most likely, the person to your right and to your left, and the person on the other side of them, most likely have not. We say the Bible is important to our faith, but few of us will garner the disciple and diligence it takes to do it. And let’s share with you a few reasons why.

We are going to read the Books of the Bible in alphabetical order. We will skip around, but the Spirit of God will keep us on track. There are ingredients we would like to leave out of certain recipes, but without all the ingredients, the end result will just be a mess. When we leave repentance out of our gospel presentations, we are not doing them a favor, we are leaving people in a mess.

There may not be a more beautiful description of Jesus than that found in the Book of Isaiah. Some 750 years before He was born, Jesus is called Wonderful, Counselor, the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace. No wonder we call Him the Present of All Presents.

Twice in the Gospels Jesus is said to have marveled. What is it that could possibly make the Omniscient Son of God go, “Wow?” Both had to do with faith: once He marveled at a Gentile’s great faith; the other time He marveled at the people’s lack of faith in His own hometown. Christmas is a time when faith ought to thrive. Unbelief misses so much of what God has in store.

This message is For Those Who Don’t Believe in Christmas. There are plenty of iconic pop-culture unbelievers like Ebeneezer Scrooge and the Grinch from Who-ville. Ahaz, the king of Judah, also missed the meaning of Christmas – even before the first Christmas – because he would not believe. And he missed out on something wonderful that God had in store. Don’t you miss out. Trust the Lord and see what He might do.

Often we assume that the best gifts are the most expensive gifts. Truth be told, the greatest gift ever is also the costliest gift ever. Jesus humbled Himself to put on human flesh, to live amongst us, to suffer and die a painful, undeserved death – an execution really – and offers us, His killers, life, life abundant and life eternal. He is indeed the Greatest Christmas Gift Ever.

What is the greatest gift you have ever received at Christmas? Some might say it was that gift they had circled in the Sear’s Catalog but never thought they’d actually get. Some remember the homemade gifts their children “tried” to make for them. The mind of some will drift towards something very expensive. But no matter who you are, the greatest gift that has ever been given is the solution for the greatest need anyone has ever had. The greatest gift is Jesus.

The cross of Christ is referred to on a number of occasions as a tree. Jesus bore our sins in His own body on the tree. Maybe if we call that holiday decoration a Christmas Tree, we could call the cross the Calvary Tree. One holds much symbolism while the other offers great significance. That makes the cross the Great Christmas Tree.
