Today we look at one of those glimpse-behind-the-curtain scenes in the Bible. It’s not one of the more famous stories, but more like a check-this-out kind of passage. After telling the story of Simon and the Sinner, Luke gives the example of 3 others who were genuine disciples. Check this out.

Both in the Bible and in life we find examples of people we want to follow. Who doesn’t want to be as courageous as Daniel? Or as skilled as David? Or as persuasive as DL Moody? Paul shares some easy to relate to people for Timothy to emulate as he looks to be more fruitful in his ministry.

We all want to be fruitful in our ministry, and in the ways we serve the Lord. We remember that Jesus said that we must abide in Him; without Him we can do nothing, but with Him we should bear much fruit. Paul provides Timothy with a small formula on what that looks like fleshed out. Let’s implement this same recipe.

 Like the gospel is central to the core of Christianity, grace is at the heart of the gospel. Yet culture has had such an impact upon the church, especially the American church, that we have lost the meanings of these words: gospel and grace. It’s time we settle these issues.

The complaining Karen who always needs to speak to the manager has a difficult time finding a home at church. In their hearts they are negative and unhappy, even bitter. And the church has a hard time ministering to them. So let’s stop being as concerned with them being happy and be concerned about them becoming holy.

Our society has given the name Karen to any person, man or woman, who has a sense of entitlement, a desire and a willingness to complain, and a self-centered approach to life; it is a frustrated selfishness. Sadly we find Karens in the church, and that is the type person Jesus is describing in this passage.

Have you ever had someone in your life who is so encouraging, so helpful, so pleasant, so important that in a world full of difficulties and disappointments, they are like a breath of fresh air? Everybody needs somebody like that. Everybody needs to be somebody like that.
