Brandon reports in from the primary control room, where EVERYTHING IS TOTALLY FINE. Don’t worry about the alarms. Just listen to a new conversation with multi-award-winning author Amal El-Mohtar and the “voice of Ottawa on CBC” Alan Neal, from CBC’s All in a Day. Evan has retreated into the “other” control room, and no one knows where Brandon is. • Season 2, Episode 3 – Leah Bobet and E.L. Chen

What’s that mist floating into the city? Are there monsters inside? Ghost monsters? Carnivorous ghost monsters? Only one way to find out! (For legal reasons, Broadcasts from the Wasteland does not condone or encourage direct engagement with supernatural mists of any kind.)

While we wait out this latest bizarre event, we have the pleasure of sitting down with fabulous authors Leah Bobet and E.L. Chen to talk about the nuances of Toronto and why it’s important for Brandon to eat at cons.

  • Season 2 Premiere: The Batman Duel!!!

Who is the terror that flaps in the night? Who is the scourge that … wait, that’s Darkwing Duck. We want the Caped Crusader. The Dark Knight. The World’s Greatest Detective … The Batman.

Welcome, fellow survivors, to the second season of Broadcasts from the Wasteland! Our season premiere is a little different than our regular episodes. After sparring on Twitter a while ago, Brandon invited fellow Ottawa author/podcaster Erin Rockfort to participate in a Batman Duel. The challenge? Rank the live action Batman films from best to worst, and defend that ranking under Evan May’s careful adjudication.

This was a lot of fun for us to record, and we hope you enjoy listening. Gather round, survivors, as we descend into shadowy Gotham for a new Broadcast from the Wasteland…

Please check out Erin’s bio under the GUESTS column! She’ll return later this season for an episode with Toronto author KT Bryski.

Literary events are mostly postponed right now, so Brandon and fellow creative Adam Shaftoe have gathered eleven readers for a massive, virtual reading event. Whether you enjoy it alone or in a live listening party, we hope this satisfies some of the community ache we’re all feeling, and that you enjoy the first volume in the No One’s Alone Reading Series.

Huge thank you to our contributing readers for taking part and donating their time. Please check out work by these authors, through your local bookstore or by supporting them directly through websites, Patreon, etc.

  • Escape the Fall! Feat. Janet Elizabeth Chase, Ika Koeck & Eric Choi

Did you think we were lost? That the bunker had caved in between the weight of perpetual snow here in our nation’s capital? No snow, yet, believe it or not – but we do have another Escape the Fall episode to get you through these colder days!

This one’s a special episode featuring two separate conversations, as we desperately hope for a monstrous plague to die out in the world above. First, your intrepid hosts sit down with Tales from Plexis contributors Janet Elizabeth Chase and Ika Koeck to discuss their writing, favorite fandoms and how Julie Czerneda orders them to do things. Then join us for a chat with author, editor and aerospace engineer Eric Choi, where we plug as many different things as possible and make predictions about the future of spaceflight.

We hope you enjoy, fellow survivors. Thanks for listening, and stay tuned for another full season of Broadcasts in 2020!

We’re back, fellow survivors, and bringing you new broadcasts from our underground safe haven! Does the impending autumn chill have you down? Wondering how you might possibly survive? We might not have solutions, but we do have distractions.

This week, as a bizarre time vortex brings all kinds of madness to our quiet capitol, we sit down with guests Amal El-Mohtar (co-author of How to Lose the Time War) and Alan Neal (CBC’s All in a Day) to talk about backgrounds in theater and PhD hell, and looking ahead to TV adaptations.

Not to worry, we’ve sealed the bunker doors and have Julie Czerneda and Kevin Hearne with us in our ritually-cleansed shelter. While we wait to see if the end is indeed night, we’ll share book recommendations, explore ink, gin, grog and beer pudding, consider whether symbolism is all made up, and discuss getting into solarpunk. In the end, Kevin says the world will be perfectly fine, although we do wonder where our spidersilk wallets are. All this and more on the Season One finale of Broadcasts from the Wasteland!
