April 05, 2021Eoghan Quigg - Self-TitledWe're going pop for our fourth entry into Broken Records (originally aired on Riot Act #87 3rd April 2020) as Remfry and Steve take a look back at Eoghan Quigg, the self-titled debut (and only) album from The X-Factor 2008 second runner-up. Eoghan Quigg was savaged by critics. Jon O'Brien of AllMusic described the album as “bad karaoke”, with deficient production values failing to hide Quigg's “limited ability” and “bum notes”. Nick Levine of Digital Spy called it “amateurish as well as utterly redundant”. One track singled out for criticism by multiple reviewers was the cover of Take That's “Never Forget”, the vocal performance on which was described by Levine as “positively wince-inducing”. Gigwise placed the record at number one in their “The 20 Worst Albums of 2009” in December of that year. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information....more40minPlay
April 05, 2021Lou Reed - Metal Machine MusicIt's our biggest album on Broken Records yet, as Steve and Remfry look into Lou Reed's fifth solo album Metal Machine Music (originally aired on Riot Act #86 29th March 2020). Released in July 1975, Metal Machine Music is often derided, being a mainstay on many 'worst albums of the year' lists, but is it as bad as its reputation suggests? Or was it responsible for inventing Drone, a harsh, discordant subgenre of alternative music that still resonates with people today? Hosted on Acast. April 05, 2021Six Feet Under - Graveyard Classics IIFor our second Broken Records (originally aired on Riot Act #85 20th March 2020) Remfry and Steve delve into the 2004 album Graveyard Classics II by Six Feet Under. A death metal band covering AC/DC's seminal 1980 classic Back in Black doesn't sound like a terrible idea on paper, Unfortunately, in practise, we discover that it's an utterly atrocious idea. April 05, 2021The Enemy - Streets in the SkyOn our first episode of Broken Records (originally aired on Riot Act #77 24th January 2020) Steve and Remfry assess the utter crapness of Coventry-based indie rock band The Enemy's 3rd studio album Streets in the Sky. Released in 2012, it entered the UK Album Charts at no. 9, and was met with universally negative reviews. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information....more31minPlay
