We are in Vancouver at the IndoHoops Tournament and the vibes are amazing. It definitely feels like Vancouver is the hub of brown basketball in Canada. Let’s talk about the Basketball World Cup that India Rising will be competing at in June. There is a $20,000 prize in this knockout tournament and it features an all-star team from the US and National teams from Colombia and El Salvador. What is great about this tournament is that not only is it another platform to elevate brown athletes but it creates an opportunity for new players to showcase their talents. A fan favorite from day 1, Pranav hasn’t missed an episode. The goal was to play in the NFL even if that was looked down upon both internally and externally. Although he didn’t play in the NFL, he went on to play college football. A race he felt he was running solo, until he started to learn about all the amazing stories of others in the Asian community. With the rise of technology and social media, this allowed us to have a voice and shine light on those who are running against the grain. Growing up as a huge Toronto Raptors fan, Aleem knew early on that playing in the NBA wasn’t in the cards. His love for hoop meant that if he can't play in the league he was going to be in the league one way or another; with the dream of being a front office executive. From humble beginnings as the mascot for the Atlanta Dream, Aleem took full advantage of any opportunity to get his foot in the door of basketball. Working in sports is a privilege, it isn’t for everybody, but working for your hometown team is just special.
