On September 21, 2023, news wires were flooded with reports of an inmate in Texas convicted of two murders and suspected of many more being fatally stabbed by his cellmate. The incident occurred while the entire state had a lockdown in effect for all 100 prisons. The lockdown was instigated by an uptick in inmate on inmate violence.
