Back on July 19 and July 21, we talked about how the system designed to protect 5-year-old AJ Freund failed him. In April 2019, AJ's parents reported him missing. While the community gathered and searched for the lost child, the authorities discovered the truth - the night before he was reported missing, him mother beat him severely, made him stand in an ice-cold shower for 20 minutes, then she put him in his bed soaking wet. During the night, he went into cardiac arrest and died. His father, who witnessed the violence, took AJ's body to a remote area and buried it before he reported AJ missing. When we covered this case, we talked about how the DCFS workers who claimed the abuse allegations against AJ's parents were unfounded should also be charged with a crime in relation to his death. Well, they have - listen in as we invite special guest Todd Kohlhepp to talk about the charges the case workers went on trial for last week and what they are facing for the punishment.
