For this week’s episode of the Bside podcast we welcome a German producer, DJ, and avid record collector by the name of Saltywax.

We came into contact with Nico aka @sltwx as a fan of the show and a fellow music enthusiast, we love his desire to tell a story through music and his episode of the Bside podcast proved a perfect platform for him to do so.

He’s been playing records and producing his own music for 6 years, releasing on such labels Too Slow To Disco, a sub-label of City Slang, the Basement Discos, Random Mind State and Legofunk Records. And with his incredible new release ‘Keep Dancing’ via Zissou Records catching our attention, we’ll keep a keen eye on his future movements too.

With an epic episode spanning two hours, Saltywax moves through every genres and musical mood in his collection; Ambient , italo funk, disco, soul, jazz, techno, percussive rhythms, dancey beats, electro synths and almost anything in between!

Bside Incoming: Dejector

Back with another episode of the Bside podcast (#165), this time from Scott Nelson: a Newcastle born, London based producer better known by the name of Dejector.

As a multi-instrumentalist, Dejector’s brand of electronic music has the DNA of the UK club culture while retaining an emotional and sometimes melancholic tone, a style that can be enjoyed in headphones and on dancefloors alike.

Expect a crescendo of Bside selections, from ambient inspiration for his own music, a nostalgic guide through his distinctive post dubstep collection, before digging out some more recent club ready discoveries with an ecstatic electronic finale.

Bside Incoming: Shampain

For our 165th show, we’re giving a warm welcome to an internationally acclaimed DJ who’s a proud proponent of local talent and a dedicated member of Ireland’s underground music scene: Shampain.

Along the way he has co-founded the legendary G TOWN Records, held a long standing residency and thrown a variety of parties via his collective VSN WORLD. Having played almost every (dwindling) club and festival in Ireland, he has taken his distinctive sound and attitude further afield and to legendary institutions such as Subclub, Amnesia, KOKO and RSO to name but a few.

Shampain is passionate about pushing the Irish electronic scene forward and the debut G-Town festival will be taking place in his hometown of Galway on the 23rd of July. So save the date!!

Expect a truly eclectic Bside selection with the loose theme of love, from reggae to rock to folk to dance music, all interspersed with Irish charm and musical passion.

Bside Incoming: Giancarlo Puigbó

We’re glad to broadcast show #164, some soulful and serene Sunday vibes from a Barcelona based DJ and producer: Giancarlo Puigbó.

Originating from the Dominican Republic, Giancarlo has built a reputation on effortlessly navigating between boogie and disco grooves and crafting deep, hypnotic house & techno sets. While he’s no stranger to the heavy hitters on a packed out dance floor we will have the pleasure of hearing the softer side of his record collection: an episode crammed full of soothing sounds, with the very best of his Bsides bringing a laidback but energising tone to your day.

Expect soul, disco, horns, female vocals and dreamy downtempo beats.

Bside Incoming: Bena

We’re back with another episode of the Bside podcast (#163), this time with an exciting DJ, selector and broadcaster based in London: Bena

While regularly featuring on Peckham’s much loved radio station Balamii, and appearing behind the booth of some of London’s most estimes venues (Corsica Studios, Brilliant Corners, The Cause, Venue MOT), Bena has also began his own event series called Shedding Histories at Grow Hackney. The project aims at creating the most musically open dance floors in the capital, which will come as little surprise after hearing the great diversity of Bena’s record collection.

Beginning with the dreamy sounds of Brazil, and moving through soul, funk, and jazz from across the globe, before settling into some hypnotically deep house with all the influences you’d expect from his earlier selections. From his first reggae 45 to some more recent purchases, we’re treated to a Bside journey intertwined with exceptional knowledge and passion for each track.

Bside Live is back!

We return to our our original format, live recorded video series, with friend of the podcast and long-time listener, Fraser, stepping up to share his collection of weird and wonderful b-sides from some familiar, and not so familiar names, blending a variety of genres true to his style of DJing.

He’s currently a co-host of Friday Night Fever on EHFM and a regular on the turntables at Edinburgh’s Superico, so Fraser was the perfect candidate to rekindle our live series with some Bside fire at our new filming location ; under the enchanted lights of Superico, and behind the boom of their impressive sound system.

This Bside will take listeners on a journey right from the first tracks Fraser learnt to mix with, all the way through to some standout records hand picked recently from local stores Underground Solush’n and Rubadub.

Bside Incoming: Alex Virgo

The latest instalment of the Bside Podcast (ep #161) is hosted by a very exciting producer and talented DJ based in London: Alex Virgo

His prolific music production and electrifying DJ sets have caught the attention of tech-house heavyweights Eats Everything and Patrick Topping: His tracks regularly featuring in their sets, and more recently being released on their labels ‘Edible’ and ‘Trick’. Alex Virgo has since began blazing his own trail with Pomme Frites records, a label full of exciting artists, original productions and some amazing remixes.

So let’s sit back and take a ride through some of the music that inspires his own writing, and brings excitement to the danefloors of his DJ sets. Expect jazz infused house, thumping 4/4 beats, intricate build ups, and a dash of disco, all from the Bside of course.

Bside Incoming: Natasha Kitty Katt

Ep. 160! We are very pleased to present an episode of Bside Incoming from the Edinburgh disco legend and Ghetto Disco boss: Natasha Kitty Kat.

Her pedigree as crate digger (growing up in a disco and soul obsessed family) is matched by her passion and technical ability behind the turntables, with a notoriety that has lead her to DJ at Glitterbox, Suncebeat Festival Croatia, Ocean Beach Ibiza, New York’s House of Yes, London’s iconic Printworks and Ministry of Sound, and Supernova Seattle.

Natasha boasts tracks released on Glitterbox Recordings, Tropical Disco Records, The Basement Discos and Midnight Riot to name a few, with support from the likes of Louie Vega and even previous guest Marcel Vogel. While her own imprint, Ghetto Disco Records, moves from strength to strength with house and disco intended for the dance floor.

If you’re looking for a dose of disco, we’ve got you covered; from the sweet and soulful, the sexy strings, all the way to the funky basslines and of course some staccato synth italo rhythms.

Expect soul, downtempo disco, irresistible vocals, and sunny vibes.

Bside Incoming: Phairo

This week welcomes a producer known for soft soothing house tracks and beaty club thumpers alike. His recent release ‘9’ showcases the variety of his taste and the breadth of his production ability: it’s Phairo.

After years working with names like Bruno Major (producing his hit ‘Easily’, with 306 million Spotify streams), SG Lewis, ELIZA and Sam Wills, Phairo is now respected as a producer in his own right.

His Bside episode will move from a stunning opener by Special Request, through Latin, hip-hop and folk, back to the kind of Beaty tracks he’s known for.

Bside Incoming: Seren Seo

We’re excited to make a return to the Bside turntables with an Edinburgh based DJ from Manchester. Among other events she can be found hosting a night with friends at the city’s notorious Cowgate venue Sneaky Pete’s, and last year, shared a line up at FLY Open Air with both local legends and some serious heavyweights like Palms Trax and a previous guest of ours Helena Star.

It’s a pleasure, then, to sit back and let Seren Seo guide us through the lesser known tracks in her vinyl collection: From the abstract and orchestral, through the jazz and downtempo electronica, before taking things up a notch with the kind of rhythms that make her DJ sets so energetic and enjoyable.
