    Bside Incoming: Ziggy Zeitgeist
For our 147th show, we are honoured to bring you the impeccable selections of Ziggy Zeitgeist.
Boy were we excited to listen to what Ziggy would send us. Being both one of the leading names in the nu-soul/future-jazz scene as well as an avid record collector, we knew we would be in for a treat. He's the drummer for the Australian based band 30/70, who have released some creative, liquid smooth blends of jazz, modern funk, hip hop and soul on the likes of Rhythm Section and Moontown records.
An absolute classic: 30/70 - The Strut https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6e4dp-D1FOo
Now living in Berlin, he has pushed his sound in modern jazz via his band - Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange, creating some truly stunning and intricate music. Their music has made fans out of Wayne Snow (who has featured on one of their albums) , Gilles Peterson, Bradley Zero, Kamaal Williams, Byron The Aquarius, Moxie and more.
A personal favourite track - 'Big up' https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=Yzi3Mk2ULHY
Be sure to also check out this journey of an album from him - 'Prayer For Peace', perfect for a chilling Sunday like today. https://zeitgeistfreedomenergyexchange.bandcamp.com/
After spending time with his father looking for records to play us, we are blessed to gain a treasured glimpse into what music influences his style with this Bside Podcast. Pulling out nothing but gems from percussive grooves, calming classical, jazz funk, soul, latin sunshine, and more... Enjoy!

  • Bside Incoming: Szafran
    Bside Incoming: Szafran
We’re very excited to bring you a wonderful DJ/Producer from Poland, he goes by the name of Szafran.
Oskar Szafraniec plied his trade under the mentorship of the legendary A Guy Called Gerald before basing himself in Berlin where his regular appearances at Club der Visionaere, Watergate, Tresor and Salon zur Wilden Renate would fine tune his live performance.
He has since released on notable labels like Rawax, Deset and Cyclo, and collaborated with some serious heavyweights like Ricardo Villalobos and Pier Bucci.
But, after an enforced end to his touring days, the industrious Polish DJ sought a change of scenery on Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast. A much needed break from performing and producing allowed a chance for new influences, inspirations, production styles, and his new alias: Szafran. The result is a beautiful balance of hardware, software, and organic sounds; breakbeat drum loops, synths, keys and the signature sound of a 303.
Be sure to check out his HOME AGAIN - 003, the third release on previous guest Thabo’s label: https://linktr.ee/homeagain003
For his Bside podcast, expect Jazz, Funk, Soul, rising into some superb house selections.
And why not listen back to an excellent episode from the label boss: Thabo: https://soundcloud.com/bsidepodcasts/bsideincoming-thabo

  • Ep. 34 Rebecca Vasmant
    Bside Ep. 34 Rebecca Vasmant
It’s always a pleasure to invite our favourite local musicians to the Bside turntables. Stepping up this time to record an episode live at Radio Buena Vida is the incredible DJ and jazz musician: Rebecca Vasmant.
Watch the live recording here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_u8YVx_-Yk&t=147s
In a dance music scene dominated by digital sounds and programming, Rebecca provides a refreshing dose of jazz infusion, acoustic instruments, and a diverse knowledge of music.
With live events and record fairs, she has certainly made a name for herself in her hometown of Glasgow, but her musical pursuits go beyond spinning and collecting records, and her reputation exceeds Glasgow. As a musician and composer she has had a six month tour with eight-strong Ghanaian outfit Kakatsitsi, events at Worldwide Festival Sete, Glasgow Jazz Festival, EFG London Jazz Festival, Jazz Cafe London, Kasheme Zurich, Brilliant Corners, Casper Montenegro, the Baltic Soul Weekender, and an exciting new residency at Ronnie Scott's as part of the 'Panro' collective.
We can’t get enough of her latest release “With Love, From Glasgow” a soothing jazzy dreamscape:

But for now let’s tuck into a masterclass of selections all under the wide spectrum of jazz, flowing from calming Brazilian vocals, hypnotic eastern horns & sitars, aggressively energetic trumpets, and everything inbetween. The truly incredible record collection of Rebecca Vasmant!

  • Bside Incoming: Marie Midori
    Bside Incoming: Marie Midori
Bside Incoming will transport us, once again, to Berlin. This time we’re meeting with a DJ renowned for groovy basslines and trippy melodies, you’re certain to discover some new sounds on an extra-terrestrial voyage with Marie Midori!
Her musical journey includes childhood mixtapes of 90s music, guitars around the campfire on her scout adventures in Slovakia’s forests, and busking on the streets of Dublin, all before throwing herself into the craft of DJing.
Her late 20s, marked by an obsessive compulsion for collecting music, defined her sound which is at once hugely varied and totally distinctive: eerie electronica, breaks, otherworldly sounds.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hV73c6iJkM&t=2864s
Her contribution to the Bside series really is a gift - a venture into her more downtempo, dystopian and somewhat hypnotic records that she doesn't often play out, yet still infused with an energy that urges you to move.
