Rick traces his path from a drug-fueled, aimless teenager in the late 1960s, through a lightning-bolt moment reading Zen Flesh, Zen Bones, to learning Transcendental Meditation in 1968 and teaching TM for 25 years. He describes intensive silent meditation retreats in Switzerland — emerging from them feeling like he'd gone in as an old rickety VW Beetle and come out as a Mercedes Benz — and the crucial process of integrating those deep experiences back into daily life. He explains Maharishi's dye-in-sunlight analogy: dipping cloth in dye then bleaching it in sun, over and over, until the color becomes colorfast and won't fade even in the most hectic activity. Fali Engineer is a living bridge between ancient traditions and modern spirituality. Born into one of the world's smallest and oldest religions — Zoroastrianism — he was educated as a civil engineer in South India, built a career in Pakistan, and in 1974 encountered Transcendental Meditation for the first time. So convinced of its value, he traveled to Switzerland in 1975 to train directly under Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, becoming the only TM teacher in Pakistan and ultimately serving as the country's TM National Leader for 12 years. Since 1966, he has also been a devoted member of the Theosophical Society and currently serves as president of the Houston Lodge.

Igal Moria grew up in Tel Aviv and, at age 19 during his Israeli military service, stumbled upon Transcendental Meditation. Three weeks later, hearing Maharishi Mahesh Yogi describe "cosmic consciousness" on a tape, he felt his entire life was suddenly "sorted." He spent the next 25 years as a TM teacher, comparative religion researcher, and member of Maharishi's inner circle — working alongside Rick Archer on religion development projects in India, the Philippines, and across Europe.

Then, at a turning point in his late 40s, Maharishi asked him to leave the ashram: "You have become too independent for me." It was, Igal says, as traumatic as a death in the family.

After rebuilding a comfortable life in Israel — teaching up to 60 students per month, appearing on Israeli TV and radio — Igal found himself restless. Then, during a sleepless, mosquito-plagued night in Tel Aviv, he stumbled across two articles by Andrew Cohen. Reading them felt like "a punch in the stomach" and "a mirror to his face" — waking him to the realization that he had given up on his own spiritual evolution and become absorbed in comfort and identity.

What followed was a radical life transformation: selling his possessions, transferring his TM center to another teacher, and joining Andrew Cohen's community — an approach to awakening through active, engaged relationship with others rather than solitary meditation.

In this rich and candid conversation with Rick Archer (a personal friend of over three decades), Igal discusses:

• His 25 years as a TM teacher and comparative religion scholar under Maharishi

John Speer grew up in East Cleveland, Ohio, where from age nine he was seized by terrifying existential questions — "Am I really here? Is this really happening?" — that would set him on a lifelong search for the nature of consciousness and reality.

Michael Baxter shares two pivotal glimpses: one in a surgical recovery room where he witnessed the world "kick back in" like an imposter taking the stage, and another on Mother's Day 2005 when, washing dishes, he suddenly perceived solid existence itself. Brad and Pam Keene live in Fairfield, Iowa, where they have built a shared spiritual life centered on their marriage of ten years. Pam has been a conscious seeker since the age of nineteen, drawing from a wide range of teachers and traditions. Brad was a practitioner of Transcendental Meditation for twenty-five years before stepping away in 1995. What followed was a turbulent period that ultimately gave way to a profound shift — one he describes not as an exalted state, but as something far simpler, more natural, and more intimate than he had ever expected. His core counsel to fellow seekers: lower your expectations.

In this conversation with Rick Archer, Brad and Pam explore what it means to use a sacred marriage as a spiritual path. Brad describes leaving formal practice behind and discovering that his daily life and his relationship with Pam had become his program. He considers her his guru, and it is her influence that has drawn him toward devotion to a personal God — what they describe as a personal Other that is Divine, beyond the impersonal silence that marks earlier stages of awakening.

Pam's own story is vivid. Her awakening came in December 2005, mid-dance, as a simultaneous implosion and explosion in the heart. A period of integration followed — what she calls her Alice in Wonderland phase — where she moved between feeling infinite and infinitesimal until the opposites were reconciled in the wholeness of Self. Her Kundalini completion arrived during a moment of intimacy with Brad, experienced as a coherent beam of light rising to the crown chakra, accompanied by visions of galaxies within her own being.

Together, Brad and Pam have developed Sharanalila, a form of sacred dance combining Sharana, the Sanskrit word for surrender, with Lila, meaning divine play. They speak openly about monogamy, sacred sexuality, and the path of radical surrender as a living, embodied practice. Pam's personal faith in a personal God, rooted in her childhood love of Jesus, serves as a counterpoint to the purely impersonal framings common in their Fairfield, Iowa community.
