  • Kingdom and Country (The Matthew Series)

    Send us Fan Mail

This week we're covering the first 22 chapters of Matthew. We're starting with the parable of the wedding feast. Jesus tells a parable about a King's invitation to a royal wedding feast that the original guests ignore and how he reacts when someone comes with the wrong intention.

Next we move onto something that can be uncomfortable to think about it and it's the co-existence of our dual citizenship of the Kingdom of God and our country. How does Jesus respond when this is raised? How does that inform how we should conduct ourselves?

  • The Beginning of Jesus' Last Week

    Send us Fan Mail

This week we're beginning the final leg of our walk through Matthew by covering Matthew chapter 21. This is where we see a heightened amount of Old Testament history and teaching meeting where Jesus is and what Jesus is doing as centuries of backstory are coming to a climax at this point.

We're covering the significance of Palm Sunday as well as "table flipping Jesus." We discuss some of the poor uses of this section of scripture to justify very human actions and why we need to avoid trying to put ourselves in the shoes of Jesus and attempt to claim HIS righteous anger.

We're then moving into the object lesson given to us through the fig tree and discussing the increase we see in statements such as "haven't you heard" or "didn't you read?" We cover what we can learn from Jesus's statement about a plant that had a purpose that it was not filling.

Finally we wrap up with two stiff parables that Jesus uses with the religious leaders to drive home the point of why He was there and what He was doing.

  • Haven't You Read?(Matthew Series)

    Send us Fan Mail

This week we're covering the first part of Matthew 19 where Jesus is tested by the Pharisees about the subject of divorce. While I fully understand this is an awkward conversation, it's an important one.

So as we embark on the conversation, I ask that you enter into it with a posture that allows the text to speak for itself, free from the baggage of our own perspectives or bias.

The Heartbeat of The Kingdom (Matthew Series)

This week we're working our way through the rest of Matthew chapter 18.  In this chapter we're going to be covering a few different core concepts that are at the very heartbeat of God's Kingdom.

We're starting off by covering the parable of the lost sheep as we discuss what we are called to do with someone who has strayed away. We further see the heart of God through Jesus displayed as we are given instruction of continued love even if the person doesn't engage well and what it means to be geared towards ultimately unity in the Spirit

Next we're discussing what to do with sin with the Kingdom community. How do we handle it? How do we engage with the individual? How important is it to forgive them?

Forgiveness is something we are going to explore heavily in the final parts of today's episode because forgiveness and unity are at the very heart beat of the Kingdom.

  • Who Is The Greatest?

    Send us Fan Mail

This week we're working our way through Matthew Chapter 17. We're starting off with the miraculous event of Jesus's Transfiguration where He meets with Moses and Elijah. We dig into the significant of the fulfillment of the mission and purpose of the Law and Prophets as well as the reaction of the disciples that were present for it. We also get a chance to "see" a stunning display from God in response to Peter's statements to Jesus.

Next we see an instance of Jesus's frustration to the unbelief of His followers when He is brought a demon possessed boy that the disciples couldn't help and dig into the implications of having faith the size of a mustard in hopes of clarifying what Jesus is getting at especially in light of His reminder about what is coming for Him.

From there we get a reminder from Jesus not to cause unneeded controversy and how to conduct ourselves among the world.

We end off with some sobering words from Jesus about sin, temptation and a reminder of what it means to be the Greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.

The Authority of The Kingdom (The Matthew Series)

This week we're finishing up Matthew chapter 16 and discussing some of the most important moments in this account of the life and ministry of Jesus.

We're starting off by breaking down the divine revelation of Jesus as the Son of God given to Peter by God and beauty of the transformational work that God has and will be doing in Peter.

We move onto discussing some of the points that tend to trip people up when discussing this portion of scripture. We define the divine responsibility that Peter and the disciples are being given in these moments and what that means for shaping the church. We also take time to define what Jesus is referring to when He gives the authority to "bind and loose" but we do so in the full context of the time, Jesus's words and purpose for doing so as well as dispel some really big misconceptions about this section of scripture.

Next we follow Peter's reaction to Jesus beginning to explain his messianic mission and the things He will have to endure and experience. We watch as Peter has a very human reaction and we discuss the dangers of it means to set our minds on earthly things rather than the things of God.

Lastly we break down Jesus's command to give up ourselves, take up our cross and follow Him, what that looks like and why it's so important to understand what He's getting at when He says that.  We close with the beautiful promise He gives.

More Than a Healing (Matthew Series)

This week we're finishing up Matthew 15 by discussing another portrayal of Jesus healing and feeding but this time we're peeling back the layers and setting the context for what's happening here in a effort to uncover the radical beauty of God's heart for humanity that is on full display to a group of "outsiders" and explore what that looks like us for people who are technically "outsiders" ourselves.

Then we're moving on the chapter 16 where we are discussing an interaction that takes place between Jesus and the religious leaders and the following warning He gives to his disciples about the dangers of false teaching.

As we discuss what's happening, we're going to take the beat to discuss what that does and doesn't mean for us as believers today and differences between being prepared and on guard and hunting out "false teachers".
