I think it is fair to say that all things digital were the crave of the 1980's. The introduction of the 'indestructible' compact disc made people throw away their record collection. Seriously, especially in the 1990's buying a vinyl record was frowned upon. We also saw the introduction of the SPARS code to identify to what extent the recording, mixing and manufacturing has been digital. Those buying cd's in the 1980's know what I am talking about. As the quality of the cd is being questioned, the new wave of vinyl records also happened due to improved quality. Find out more in this episode.

This episode looks at the Digital Compact Cassette (DCC) and mini disc formats. They both did not survive for many different reasons. Even though the DCC stopped production before the mini disc, eventually also the mini disc ended a few years later. I explain the reasons why both formats are mostly forgotten, and there is a interesting twist in this tale.

This episode takes me back to the early 1990's when Philips announced the digital compact cassette (DCC), and the format war that started with the Mini Disc and how it impacted me personally.
