In the Bible, we see that Judas betrayed Jesus, and Ananias and Sapphira were struck dead because of their unfaithful hearts in stewarding finance – they loved money. In this session, Andrew Selley unpacks God’s will for our finances, focusing on His design for tithing, giving, and offerings as laid out in Scripture. If we are not faithful with our finances, which are temporary and earthly, how can we be trusted with the eternal riches of God’s Kingdom? Do we see Jesus for who He truly is? 

We always look to the One we follow – Jesus is the object of our faith. However, how we see Jesus will determine the quality of our faith – a wrong view of Him will damage it, and a diminished view of Him will keep us from growing into who God wants us to be. Many believers mistakenly serve Jesus according to their culture or their imagination. In this session, Michael d’Offay highlights who Christ truly is, according to the Word of God. How vulnerability unlocks fellowship. 

When last did you open yourself up to receive correction and input from a leader or another saint? It is human nature to hide the broken or dysfunctional parts of ourselves, but the Lord’s plan is for us to live in the light. This means we are open about our sin and weaknesses, allowing others to show us our blind spots, so that we may continually grow in Jesus. The Bible teaches us that leaders need to speak into our lives – correcting, rebuking, and encouraging us with patience and careful instruction. In this session, Andrew Selley encourages us to allow heaven’s spotlight to shine on us, revealing the truth about ourselves so that we can reflect Christ better. True fellowship is found in the light – will we be obedient to His Word and show others who we truly are?

Apostles are God’s chosen architects. 

What does the church look like when built the way Jesus intended? One of the most important aspects to consider is leadership – they define the values, the boundaries, and, ultimately, the health of the church. In this session, Andrew Selley explains the gift of the apostolic, looking at the Biblical role and function of this office. In a time when many churches have lost connection to this gift or embraced unbiblical views regarding the apostolic, it is important to understand what the Lord’s plan is with apostles. This gift connects all the other ministry gifts, bringing the correct balance in working together and equipping saints for the work of the ministry. Today’s apostles differ from the original twelve, but the apostolic remain fundamental to building the church, as they are God’s master builders. Jesus is the architect of the church, and it is the apostles who apply His blueprint.

It was God’s plan to join us to His body.  

The Bible shows us that the Lord has had plans for each of us before we were even born – part of this plan is for us to become functioning members of His body. God puts a little bit of Himself into every believer when we become born again, and in this way, we all contribute our part to His household – ultimately reflecting the fullness of Him. In this session, Andrew Selley shows us that it has always been God’s plan to connect every believer to a local church. In Christ, though we are many individuals, we are joined together to form one body, with Christ as our Head. This is a profound connection – we not only belong to one another, but the Lord desires us to be one with each other, as He is with the Father.

We must not go beyond Scripture when building His church.  

When considering how our modern-day churches have been built, we must ask ourselves: are we going beyond what is written in Scripture? Just as Priscilla and Aquilla explained the ways of God to Apollos more adequately, we also need to allow our understanding to increase. The Lord has given us the Bible to show us His design for the church, but today, we see many aspects that do not reflect His Word – polluting and diluting God’s House. In this session, Andrew Selley unpacks this further, challenging us to grapple with our culture and wrong beliefs, aligning them with the Lord’s ways. He urges us not to redefine what the Word says to fit our preferences, regardless of our good intentions. May our knowledge grow and our insight be deepened as we study God’s will for His Body.

Are you fully committed and devoted to Christ’s Body?  

The Bible describes the church as the vehicle through which the manifold wisdom of God will be made known – God’s church is the only nation that is truly under His rule, reflecting His ways. It is only through the church that we will see the Kingdom come. How understanding the severity of sin and its judgment helps us embrace the goodness of the Gospel.  

Too often, we allow the lenses of our culture to influence how we see God, measuring Him by our own societal standards and thereby judging His actions according to our own understanding. In this session, Andrew Selley reminds us that we must embrace God for who He is, fully aligning ourselves with what the Bible says about Him. We are encouraged to consider both the kindness and the sternness of God according to Romans 11:22. He unpacks the severity of God’s judgment of sin by explaining the severe impact sin has on us and on creation. We must accept this sternness for us to recognise the radical kindness of God in sending Jesus to die for our sin. Jesus is the only one who could atone for this sin. Therefore, the Gospel is the ‘good news.’ Only by understanding how bad the alternative is can we fully grasp how great the good is.

How do we connect with Jesus and stay connected?  

Jesus died on the cross to reconcile us to God, allowing us to come into His presence. The Lord loves spending time with us and desires a living relationship with us, His children. Only through this connection with Jesus can we bear good fruit, as the Word tells us that we can do nothing aside from the Lord – we must abide in Him. In this session, Andrew Selley encourages saints in the ways they can deepen their connection with the Lord by sharing out of his own relationship and intimate times with Jesus. We are taught how important it is to spend time with the Lord every morning. As we do this, the Word of God becomes alive to weigh us, and time in prayer and worship builds our intimacy with the Lord, helping us to remain in Him.

Are we truly family? 

Churches are not meant to be preaching centres – God’s design for the church is family. Jesus sets this example for us – while teaching, He invited the children to come to Him and rebuked His disciples for hindering them (Matthew 19:13-14). In this session, Andrew Selley unpacks baptism and baby dedication and how these paint a beautiful picture of God’s heart. He explains how God values children and family, no less than preaching His Word. He emphasises that today it should be no different – the modern church is meant to be a close-knit family, where we help one another in raising our children.
