Welcome to week #6 of the Building Your Best Self Series, a 13-episode mini adventure to call forth your best self as you head into 2022.
Today we are talking about Building Your Wolfpack.
In the Great Man Within community, we have a mantra: stop lone wolfing your life. The Lone Wolf is the man going through life mentally, emotionally and spiritually on his own. Lone wolves starve. Men thrive when in community with other men.
And when you embark upon this personal development journey, you may find the types of men you’re currently surrounded by can’t quite support or understand where you’re trying to go. That can cause tension in your existing relationships.
If you’re experiencing that friction already, you’re not alone. To highlight this, I ran a poll on my Instagram account this past week where I asked 4 questions (150 responses):
#1. Did your personal development journey strengthen your relationship with existing friends or cause tension?
44% strengthened 56% caused tension
#2. When you began your journey, did you have a friend also working on that, or did you go at it solo?
27% friend 73% solo
#3. Did you feel supported by or resistance from your friends?
48% supported 52% resistance
#4. Did you end up saying goodbye to old friendships?
83% yes 17% no
So, the bottom line is, as you grow, and as your priorities change it can cause friction with your existing relationships…AND it represents a powerful opportunity to consciously create the pack of men you want to surround yourself with now and into the future.
Joining Bryan and I for today’s discussion is our special guest Jay Washington. Jay is one of the most visible, vocal and influential men in our Great Man Within Communities. He’s in two of the masterminds, and appeared on episode #210 of the podcast Uncomfortable Conversations with Black Men.
