Anger is our friend. Not a nice friend. Not a gentle friend. But a very, very loyal friend. It will always tell us when we’ve been betrayed. It will always tell us when we’ve betrayed ourselves.
- Julia Cameron, The Artist’s Way
Anger is a potent energy that very few men have an empowering relationship with. For many of us, it sabotages, it gnaws away at our insides, it causes us to say and do things we regret, it harbors resentment with the people we love.
There is no way we can be our best selves – our Great Man – when we have such a disempowering relationship with our anger.
And yet, anger also holds the potential to be an incredible gift…if we can learn to build our capacity to work with this powerful emotion.
When a man learns how to experience his anger without suppressing or exploding…he finds his power:
- He speaks up for what he believes in - He maintains his boundaries - He creates safety for others - He resolves conflicts and dissolves resentment
A man who can work with anger in this way is trustworthy. Sexy even.
