The Browns are dancing! After a season filled with injuries and adversity the Cleveland Browns have clinched the 5th seed with one week to go and sleepy Joe and the boys will be able to get all the rest they need before the playoffs as the game this week doesn't matter.

Last Thursday they took on the Jets in a "win and you're in" game and left absolutely no doubt as to whether they were ready for the playoffs or not. This game was over by halftime as Joe Flacco threw for 296 yards in the first half and David Njoku had more receiving yards in the 1st quarter than any TE in NFL history! Pure domination doesn't even begin to describe that first half of play. The second half? Well let's just say that both teams and all the fans were able to go to bed early.

This week the Browns have the Bengals who just got eliminated from playoff contention and will be starting their 5th quarterback of the season as they give Flacco and most of the rest of the backup starters a well earned night off to get healthy for the playoffs. Nobody has anything to play for and probably don't want to get any important pieces hurt. So it's gonna be exciting!

We hope you had a Merry Christmas - who are we kidding, we know you did with that Browns victory - and we welcome you back to your regularly scheduled Burning River Sportscast programming!

And why was it so Merry? Well in case your holiday festivities prevented you from fully enjoying the football game, Joe Flacco and Amari Cooper combined to rout the CJ Stroud-less Houston Texans and deliver to all Clevelanders the closest thing you can get to clinching a playoff berth! However, in this roller coaster season that we've had, a big victory like this couldn't possibly come without some adversity. Annnndddd queue the Browns injuries...

It's next man up though as the Browns host the God Damn Jets this week on Thursday Night Football! Just like the Browns, the Jets are down to a backup to a backup at QB. Unlike the Browns, however, they come into this one with the worst offense in the league. All of this spells good fortune for the Cleveland Browns as they look to clinch a playoff spot as we head into the New Year!

Will it be New Year new Browns where they will be able to finally call themselves a contender? Or will the Jets stir up memories of dreaded years past when they come into Cleveland this week?

Ho Ho Ho - Merry Christmas!

It's week 16 and Christmas is year as your Cleveland Browns, despite all of the injuries and adversity this year, have a chance (with help) to clinch a playoff spot this weekend with two weeks still remaining in the season. How in the hell did we end up here!?

In week 15 Joe Flacco and the boys dug themselves a hole against a terrible Bears team but managed to come up with some Christmas magic in the fourth quarter and rallied from 10 points down to take home the victory! Joe Flacco made some mistakes early but in the end his legend keeps growing as he added yet another fourth quarter comeback to his resume. He's the man that every Cleveland woman wants and every Cleveland man wants to be right now.

This week the Browns take on the Houston Texans who are without their rookie phenom at quarterback as CJ Stroud remains in concussion protocol. Will the replacement Browns led by Joe Flacco, aka Santa Claus, be able to take care of the backups in Houston and deliver the Christmas miracle of an early playoff clinch? Or will Krampus show up and stuff us in a snow globe only to watch and pray and sweat that the right teams win and lose so we can make it to the postseason?

Joe Flacco is the man! Cool Joe led the Browns to a victory over a solid Jaguars squad and the Browns are firmly in the playoff picture and at this point would have to work pretty hard to miss them! The Browns rewarded Flacco with a one year contract and we are riding with him for the rest of the season!

In the game against Jacksonville, the defense did it's thing, the passing game looked good, special teams was brilliant again, and Stefanski even settled down and looked like the competent play caller and coach that we all hope for every week and love when he shows up! This week they take on Justin Fields and Da Bears. If they can manage to force the passing game for Chicago to beat them then the Browns superior talent should prevail and they should pick up one of the two wins that they need to all but guarantee a playoff berth. Will they take care of business or will four more players being added to IR this week finally derail this freight train from hell that has been heading straight up the ass of the competition all season long?

It's time!!!! Time for the 50th episode of Burning River Sportscast!

The Browns are on a 2 game losing skid since beating division rivals Baltimore and Pittsburgh in back to back weeks. The defense has come back to earth and looked rather pedestrian these last couple weeks. They got embarassed by the Rams on a day when Joe Flacco got off the couch and suited up once again and gave the Browns surprisingly efficient quarterback play throughout. Next up they get a chance to right the ship at home against a tough Jaguars team (albeit without their star QB). Will they be able to bounce back or will they extend their losing streak and be backed into a corner in this fight for a playoff spot? At the moment the Browns sit in the 7 spot in the AFC playoff picture. However, with a few more losses they may find themselves on the outside looking in.

While it is true that the Browns have hit a rough spot in the season - do we care? Are we worried? Absolutely not! Because it's our 50th episode, the Browns have 3 of their last 5 games at home where they are 5-1 this season, Joe Flacco looks like he's still got some in the tank, and we get to talk to the Jacksonville Browns Backers and FUTURE HALL OF FAMER JOSH CRIBBS TODAY!

Everybody just calm down!!! Did the Browns go into Denver and make like Turkeys and lay an egg? Yes. Did they blow a chance to gain ground and potentially eventually overtake the Ravens for the division lead? Yes. Did Stefanski have a few more ridiculous play calls in this one that helped turn the tide against our Brownies? Yes. Did the Browns pick up several more injuries to add to their long list of existing injuries? Yes. But are the Browns still 7-4 and in a good spot to make the playoffs by season's end? HELL YES!

All of Cleveland needs to step back from the edge my friend because this team is resilient and it is going to be okay! The Browns had a bad game in Denver and were embarrassed by the Broncos, but the sky is not falling, the team will bounce back, and they will continue their playoff push even with injuries to several key players. Last week is done and over with and this week they have a date in LA LA Land with the Chargers and a chance to get one step closer to the ultimate prize. With DTR trying to get healthy in time for this week's game, we all hold our breath wondering if Joe Flacco will officially don the Orange and Brown in a regular season game in what promises to be one of the weirdest sights you'll ever see on the gridiron.

On this Thanksgiving Day of 2023 we are thankful for the Cleveland Browns. Our Brownies are currently sitting at 7-3 and have themselves positioned to make a playoff run. All this despite the team being down their franchise QB, a generational talent at RB, multiple starting OL, their starting FS, a starting CB for parts of the season, and starting LBs at times. And for that they can thank first and foremost a man that came in and completely changed the culture in the building from day one - Jim Schwartz. And even Kevin Stefanski has come around of late and is starting to look more like CoY Stefanski from 2020 rather than whatever the hell we've seen the last two years.

This past week the Browns beat the Pittsburgh Steelers. This win follows the dramatic comeback win from the prior week against the Baltimore Ravens and marks the first time in Cleveland Browns history that they've beaten those teams back to back. In the process Cleveland managed to completely break the Pittsburgh fanbase and has them calling for the organization to clean house and get rid of their QB and HC.

Myles Garrett is the current sack leader, the defense continues to play lights out, the offense still has some work to do, and this week we meet up with a red hot Broncos team that currently holds the leagues longest active winning streak at 4 games.

Do you ever wish you could go back to a better time? A simpler time. When everything made sense. When all was right with the world. When things were good and you were feeling great. When joy, hope, and excitement were the only emotions you've known. When Deshaun Watson didn't have a broken and displaced Glenoid bone in his shoulder? Yeah, we do too.

A game in which Deshaun Watson, after breaking that bone in his shoulder in the first half, was perfect in the second half and led a furious comeback that included overcoming a 14 point defecit in the last 9:08 to win 33-31. This game was special. It was probably the signature win of Stefanski's tenure so far. The offense played well against a stout Ravens D. The defense dominated the second half of the game against an athletic and dangerous Ravens O. Lamar Jackson was held in check. And the Browns played their game.

Through 8 games the Browns find themselves right in the thick of things at 5-3! If the playoffs ended today the entire AFC North would be in the playoffs as once again they are proving to be the very best conference the NFL has to offer! Last week the Browns dominated an inferior opponent in the Arizona Cardinals as they got their franchise QB back. It was a game they should've won and they looked like the better team throughout. Now we're all feeling rather calm and optomistic about the rest of the season for the Browns at the moment. But the Storm is about to begin. The next two weeks we have Baltimore and Pittsburgh, respectively, and the fate of the Browns season may very well hang in the balance.

We were right there. The Cleveland Browns were right there... Somehow, while our $230M franchise QB was out and we were playing with our 3rd string XFL QB, Kevin Stefanski, Jim Schwartz, and the Dawgs on defense were still able to have the Browns in a position to pick up their 3rd straight win and get us one step closer to the top of the division. But alas! Kevin Stefanski went back to his roots and put the game in the hands of the aforementioned 3rd string QB when the game mattered the most. And here we are wondering once again what could of been and finding ourselves only able to conjure one single word for Stefanik - "why?"

But now we're on to a new week and a new sense of hope and optimism for half the fan base and an impending sense of doom for the other half. The Browns get a cupcake game this week that should be no problem for whatever personnel they put on the field. However, every devoted Browns fan knows that these are the type of games that somehow seem to not go our way...
