  • Shisha cafe owner faces 15 years in jail

    In Episode 3 we go through Melbourne’s ‘hipster proof fence’ that is Bell Street to look at a recent molasses tobacco bust.

    A man who ran a shisha cafe tried to smuggle three tonnes of the stuff into Australia, worth $2.75 million.

    Molasses tobacco should be worth more than silver thanks to tax but you can still buy a kilo for a fraction of what you would expect to pay.

    This is ripping taxpayers off by billions of dollars in tax revenue every year.

    We look at why this is happening.

    Diamond watches screaming “criminal,” luxury cars, boats, designer bags, houses and literally entire farms. In Episode 2 we talk about how the AFP made more than $250 million in “bling seizures” from organised crime gangs last year. This is money you’d hope could fund additional police work but not all is what it seems with what becomes of these goods after they’re seized.
