Does you believe that the cross is the centrepiece of the Christian faith? Do you act as if the message of the cross is the defining reality of our life? The sad reality is that for many of the cross has become nothing but a fashion accessory. Something that you wear around your neck, hang in your car, put up on the wall but nothing more. Sadder still, the importance of the cross has been lost in many churches. Because there is always the temptation to stop listening to the Bible and to start listening to the world. To live by the wisdom of the world instead of the foolishness of the cross.

Introduction: How do you perceive the cross?

1. Problem: Divisions in the church (10-17)

a. Corinthian Factions (10-14)

b. Paul’s priority (14-17)

2. Solution: The foolish wisdom of the cross (18-25)

a. The cross has nullified human wisdom (18-21)

b. Christ is the power and wisdom of God (22-25)

3. Result: Proud boasting eliminated and God alone glorified (26-31)

Conclusion: Is the cross truly the centre of your life?

Instead of living our lives in the light of eternity, very often we get enmeshed with the things of this world: chasing careers and comfort, and children, and a happy retirement. But Revelation 22 insists that Jesus is coming soon and we need to be ready.

Faith is not real, if there is no fruit that flows from it. It’s so much easier to call oneself a Christian, than to live a Christian life. And that’s why this passage is such a helpful reminder. Because it reminds us that if our faith is real, will keep Jesus' commands and bear the fruit of sacrificial love.

But all too often we fail to love one another. We need to be struck again by Christ’s love, so that we are love again, more deeply and more fully.

Work - it is the place that we spend most of our waking hours. We spend more time working than doing almost anything else. Malaysians work some of the longest hours in developed cities around the world. KL was recently rated #21 for average annual working hours in a global survey of cities. Living a distinctively Christian life in a work-obsessed culture can be very challenging. It is crucial that we have a clear understanding of God’s purpose for our work, so that we do not embrace the way of life of those around us.
