It was in the 70s, that Oliver discovered his love for Wategos Beach, Byron Bay. He built a home there and has remained a cherished member of the community ever since.

Oliver's story is not just about personal discovery; it's a reflection on the ever-changing nature of Byron Bay.  He shares vivid memories of Dublin's past, where the influence of the Bishop was large, dictating much of daily life. 

As the mayor of Byron from 1987 to 1989, Oliver offers valuable insights into the town's progress and challenges. He advocates for the preservation of low-rise buildings and the conservation of Byron Bay's unique character.
