A Skeptic, a Haunted House, and a Story That Can't Be Easily Explained!
A lifelong skeptic shares chilling paranormal encounters in his haunted farmhouse, including disembodied voices, ghostly mimics, unexplained footsteps, and questions about consciousness after death.
Some of the most compelling paranormal stories come from people who never expected to tell them.
This episode's guest, Doyle, is someone I am incredibly lucky to call a friend. Born in England, raised in Ireland, and eventually making his way to the United States, Doyle has lived a fascinating and varied life. He's been a summer camp director, educator, podcast producer, chorus singer, and parent. He's also a lifelong science fiction fan—which, naturally, makes us instant besties.
Living in a Haunted Farmhouse
Doyle's paranormal experiences took on a much darker tone after he began living alone in an old farmhouse.
The house dates back to the 1950s and, according to Doyle, has been the site of three confirmed deaths. One person reportedly died in the very bedroom where he now sleeps.
After his divorce, Doyle suddenly found himself living alone in the house.
That's when he began noticing things.
The Chilling Phenomenon of Ghostly Mimicking
One of the most unsettling paranormal experiences Doyle described involved what paranormal researchers and experiencers sometimes call mimicking.
On more than one occasion, Doyle heard one of his sons calling for him.
He would go looking for the source of the voice—only to discover that his son insisted he had never called.
Is a Mimic a Darker Kind of Paranormal Activity?
Doyle described mimicking as the aspect of his experiences that felt potentially darker.
A voice calling from an empty room can be unsettling on its own. But hearing the voice of someone you know—particularly when you later discover they never spoke—adds another layer of discomfort.
Why would something mimic a living person's voice?
Does Consciousness Continue After Death?
Doyle is open to the possibility that consciousness might continue after physical death.
He referenced ideas connected with quantum physics and theories exploring whether some aspect of existence could persist in a state we cannot currently comprehend.
These ideas are highly speculative, and they should not be confused with established scientific proof of an afterlife.
But the question remains one of humanity's oldest and most persistent:
What happens to consciousness when the body dies?
The Power of a Shared Paranormal Experience
Perhaps the most compelling part of Doyle's story isn't a photograph or an investigation.
It's the moment when two people heard the same impossible voice.
When strange experiences happen alone, we often question our senses. We wonder whether exhaustion, expectation, memory, or perception could have played a role.
But shared experiences are different.
They don't automatically prove a supernatural explanation. Two people can still misunderstand or misidentify the same event.
Yet they complicate the easy dismissal that someone simply imagined something.
For Doyle, his son's confirmation mattered.
His son heard it too.
And that left them both with a mystery.

Science and Spirituality: Julie Grimm on Awakening and Mystery!
Julie Grimm shares her journey from scientist and atheist to spiritual guide, exploring mystical experiences, oneness, magic, and the fascinating intersection of science and spirituality.
What Happens When Science Meets the Mystery?
What if we didn't have to choose between science and spirituality?
What if a deep love of biology, mathematics, astronomy, dolphins, or the physical universe could coexist with an equally deep fascination with mystery, magic, and the experiences we cannot fully explain?
That question sits at the heart of my conversation with Julie Grimm, a scientist, painter, author, illustrator, professional guide, and healer within the modern mystery school.
A Scientist and Atheist Experiences a Spiritual Awakening
Julie wasn't searching for a mystical experience.
She wasn't a metaphysical scholar. She knew about concepts such as chakras largely through yoga, but she considered them metaphors rather than literal energetic realities.
At the time, she identified as a scientist and an atheist.
Then something happened that completely changed the lens through which she experienced the world.
Mystical Experiences Don't Always Happen When We Expect Them
One of the things I loved most about talking with Julie was hearing where some of her later mystical experiences occurred.
Not in a sacred ceremony.
Not necessarily in deep meditation.
Not always during prayer.
Sometimes, she said, these moments appeared unexpectedly.
Living at the Threshold of Mystery
Julie Grimm's story is not necessarily a story about abandoning science for spirituality.
It's a story about allowing an extraordinary experience to change the questions she was willing to ask.
She remains someone with a scientific background.
And she has also become someone deeply engaged with spiritual exploration, healing, guidance, and mystery.
She lives at the threshold.

Trauma, Foster Care, Social Work Burnout & Healing: Karen Dwyer Tesoriero on the Miracle of Helping Others
What does working in the foster care system do to a social worker? How does childhood trauma affect families? And how can therapists and caregivers learn to help others without burning themselves out?
In this powerful conversation, I sit down with Karen Dwyer Tesoriero, a New York City psychotherapist and trauma therapist who spent nearly 15 years working in the NYC child welfare and foster care system.
Karen's story is about much more than social work.
People can change. Families can heal. And sometimes, against enormous odds, a child can go home.
That is the miracle at the heart of Karen's story.
How Does Foster Care Affect Children?
One of the most important themes in Karen's experience is the trauma associated with removing children from their homes.
Children entering foster care may already have experienced abuse, neglect, poverty, parental addiction, domestic instability, or other forms of trauma.
Then they may experience another profound disruption: separation from their parents and familiar surroundings.
Intergenerational Trauma and the Foster Care System
Karen also talks about something she came to understand more deeply through her work as a trauma therapist: intergenerational trauma.
Many of the parents she encountered were struggling with their own histories of trauma and limited access to resources.
Then another trauma occurred: having their children removed.
Why Social Work Can Cause Burnout
Karen's experience also raises an important Google question:
Why do social workers experience burnout?
Because social workers aren't simply performing tasks.
They are absorbing stories.
They are witnessing suffering.
They are managing crises.
They are advocating for people who may have very little power.
The Transformation That Changed Karen's Life
One of the most compelling parts of Karen's story is that her transformation didn't happen all at once.
She spent years putting other people first.
Eventually, she had to learn how to include herself in the circle of people worth caring for.
The Miracle Karen Created Through Her Work
When we talk about miracles, we often imagine something dramatic.
A supernatural event.
An impossible coincidence.
A sudden transformation.
But there is another kind of miracle.
It's the miracle created through years of showing up for other human beings.

What if some of the most meaningful moments in your life begin as completely ordinary coincidences?
In this episode, Eric Robinson shares extraordinary true stories from his career as an FBI agent, SWAT operator, pastor, and author—including experiences of unexpected synchronicity, unlikely connections, second chances, and moments when life seemed to arrange the pieces with almost impossible timing.
Eric is a practical person. But after years working in the FBI and spending 15 years as a SWAT operator, he has encountered some remarkable coincidences that are difficult not to experience as meaningful.
His stories raise fascinating questions:
What is synchronicity? Are coincidences meaningful? Is there such a thing as a meaningful coincidence? And can the seemingly random events in our lives actually connect in ways we don't recognize until years later?
What Is Synchronicity?
Synchronicity is often described as a meaningful coincidence—a seemingly unrelated series of events that come together in a way that feels significant.
Eric doesn't present himself as an expert on synchronicity or claim that every coincidence has a supernatural explanation. In fact, he describes himself as practical.
But his career has given him firsthand experience with unexpected connections and coincidences that feel almost magical in retrospect.
True FBI Stories: The Pastor Who Became an FBI Agent
If you enjoy true FBI stories, Eric Robinson's career is particularly unusual.
Before becoming an FBI agent, Eric was a Baptist pastor.
He eventually transitioned from ministry into federal law enforcement and spent 15 years as a SWAT operator.
His story provides a fascinating look at what happens when someone follows a career path that looks completely unexpected from the outside.
When a Second Chance Turns Into Something Completely Unexpected
When Eric later followed up about the applicant, he learned that the young man had failed his polygraph after admitting to numerous felonies that he had not disclosed.
Suddenly, the meaning of the earlier intervention looked very different.
Sometimes we only understand the significance of a moment after the next piece of the story appears.
Can Ordinary Life Contain Extraordinary Magic?
Absolutely—and that's one of the central themes of this conversation.
Eric's experiences didn't happen in some fantasy world.
They happened during FBI fitness tests, SWAT operations, conversations with colleagues, career decisions, and ordinary interactions with other people.
The Magic Is Sometimes in the Path We Choose
Perhaps the most meaningful lesson from Eric's story isn't about the FBI, SWAT, or even synchronicity.
It's about being willing to follow a path without knowing exactly where it will lead.
Eric didn't begin his career knowing that he would become an FBI agent or SWAT operator. He didn't know which people he would meet, which lives he would influence, or which seemingly random conversations would eventually come full circle.
But he kept walking.

After losing her father and 30-year-old son, Araceli Kapilov discovered unexpected kindness, synchronicity, and magic. Hear her extraordinary story of grief, healing, and hope.
What happens when unimaginable loss changes everything you thought you knew about life—and somehow, through grief, love, unexpected kindness, and mysterious moments, you begin to find your way forward?
In this deeply moving episode, Araceli Kapilov shares her extraordinary journey through grief, loss, trauma, healing, and unexpected moments of magic.
What Happens When Grief Changes Your Entire Life?
Araceli's experience raises some of the most difficult questions about grief and loss:
For Araceli, some of the answers came through remarkably ordinary—and yet deeply magical—moments.
A Stranger Appears During a Panic Attack
One of the most unforgettable moments in Araceli's story happens while she is riding her bicycle in Mexico.
Overcome by grief and anxiety, she has to stop because she is hyperventilating and experiencing a panic attack.
Then, seemingly out of nowhere, a small woman approaches her.
How Animals Can Help Us Through Grief
Araceli also talks openly about the role her dogs played in her survival.
After returning to Mexico, she describes being overwhelmed by despair and struggling to imagine continuing her life.
But when she cried, her dogs came to her.
The Magic of Mexico, Day of the Dead, and Remembering Those We've Lost
Mexico becomes an important part of Araceli's healing journey.
She describes experiencing a culture where community, physical affection, compassion, and remembrance helped her reconnect with life.
Her experience also brings a powerful dimension to the traditions surrounding Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)—a celebration in which remembering and honoring loved ones who have died can become an active part of community and family life.
From Devastating Loss to a Commitment to Beauty
Perhaps the most inspiring part of Araceli's story is what she does with her grief.
She doesn't pretend the loss didn't happen.
She doesn't suggest that everything happens for a reason.
Instead, she keeps moving.
She continues creating.
She continues connecting with people.
She continues looking for beauty.
A Story About Grief, Magic, and Continuing On
Araceli's story is ultimately about something larger than loss.
It is about what becomes possible after loss.
It is about the mysterious ways people enter our lives.
It is about the possibility that a coincidence can become meaningful.
It is about the healing power of animals, friendship, culture, kindness, and connection.
And it is about choosing to remain open to beauty even after life has broken your heart.
If you've ever experienced profound grief, wondered whether you've received a sign from someone who died, experienced an uncanny coincidence, or simply needed a reminder that there is still something beautiful waiting for you in the world, this episode is for you.
Listen to Araceli Kapilov's extraordinary story of loss, resilience, synchronicity, and magic—and then, when you're ready, get off the couch and go see what the world has waiting for you.

What if a sign from the universe appeared in the most unexpected way—a basketball rolling directly to your feet with exactly the message you needed to see?
In this powerful episode, Austin Ramp shares an extraordinary true story of addiction, recovery, resilience, self-acceptance, and what he believes was a life-changing miracle.
Austin’s journey took him from a childhood dominated by anxiety and shame to drug addiction, homelessness, and eventually living in Mexico alongside members of the Sinaloa Cartel. At his lowest point, Austin had lost almost everything. Yet somehow, even when his life seemed impossible to rebuild, a path forward began to appear.
And eventually, something happened that Austin considers a miracle.
The Unexpected Miracle in Mexico
After losing almost everything, Austin was welcomed into the home of a woman and her mother.
They didn't have much materially. Their living conditions were dramatically different from what Austin had known in the United States. They didn't even have a conventional water heater; water had to be heated on the stove and poured into a bucket for bathing.
But what Austin encountered in that home changed his understanding of happiness.
These two women had very little, yet they offered him enormous kindness, generosity, and love.
Austin suddenly saw something he had spent years searching for through money, achievement, and external success.
Happiness wasn't necessarily waiting for him at the end of some enormous accomplishment.
It was already there.
What Is Synchronicity?
Austin's story raises a fascinating question: What is synchronicity, and can meaningful coincidences change our lives?
Synchronicity is often used to describe coincidences that seem to have an unusual personal meaning. Unlike an ordinary coincidence, a synchronicity can feel as though two seemingly unrelated events have somehow lined up at precisely the right moment.
Austin's basketball story is a striking example. Wait until you hear this story, it's an astonishing reminder of the magic that weaves this Universe!
Can You Find a Miracle in the Middle of a Crisis?
One of the most meaningful ideas in Austin's story is that miracles don't always look like miracles when they're happening.
Sometimes they look like a stranger inviting you into their home.
Sometimes they look like a moment of unexpected kindness.
Sometimes they look like finally finding the strength to ask for help.
Listen to Austin Ramp’s Extraordinary True Story
Austin's story is a powerful reminder that our lives can change in ways we never anticipate.
If you've ever wondered whether coincidences are meaningful, whether synchronicities can guide us, whether manifestation works, or whether miracles can appear in the middle of impossible circumstances, this episode offers plenty to think about.
And if you're struggling right now, Austin has an even simpler message:
Don't give up on yourself.

Your bit of beauty is this: lately I've been thinking about song and vibration and how we, as humans, move through a world of music each and every day. Well, I am captivated by how the Shipibo peoples create their songs, called icaros, and weave them into their beautiful artworks. Check out this YouTube by the Museum of International Folk Art, here! Titled, "Olinda Silvano/ Reshinjabe: singing Shipibo Conibo kené designs", it will give you a bit of a reference as to what this vibrational art looks like!
