It’s a slightly different show today as I’m on my way back from Poland after delivering humanitarian aid for Ukrainian refugees.

Inter’s poor run continues and they are now 6 points behind leaders Milan and 3 points behind 2nd-placed Napoli after a poor 1-1 draw away to Fiorentina.

Earlier in the day, Napoli went behind to a crisp strike from Gerard Deolofeu of Udinese but another brace from Victor Osimhen gave them the comeback win in Naples.

In the evening, Milan grabbed a hard-fought three points with a 1-0 win against lowly Cagliari.

So Milan are too on 66 points, Napoli three points behind them with Inter a further three points behind.
Until tomorrow, this is Andrew saying "arrivederci, ragazzi, a domani!"

Tammy Abraham's injury-time equaliser gives Roma the aggregate win and puts them through to the UEFA COnference League quarter final.

A successful evening for the remaining Italian teams in Europe last night as both Atalanta and Roma made it through to the next round of their competitions.

Atalanta were 3-2 up from the first leg against Bayer Leverkusen and last night, an injury time goal from Jeremie Boga gave them a 1-0 win to make it 4-2.

But the drama was saved for Jose Mourinho's Roma side. 1-0 up from the first leg against Vitesse, Roma were a goal down at home with half an hour to goal and as the game moved into injury time, Roma were heading to extra time. Not the ideal situation, with the Rome derby coming up in just 3 days' time.

El Shaarawy's free kick in the 91st minute found Karsdorp at the far post whose knock back found Tammy Abraham tearing into the 6 yard box to head home and send Roma through to the quarter finals of the UEFA Conference League.

Next up for Roma – the Rome derby!

  • Juventus Dumped! – Italian Football News 17 Mar 22
Ciao, ragazzi! This is Andrew with your Calcio Daily for Thursday March 17th, our 203rd daily show in a row!
Hey! Send us a donation via the Fountain podcast app and subscribe to the channel on YouTube! You can also buy today's show as an NFT, the link is in the description.
Juventus were unceremoniously dumped out of the Champions League last night after a 3-0 defeat at home to Villareal saw them go down 4-1 on aggregate.
It's a result that some will find quite shocking but Max Allegri was defiant in his post match presser. When asked if this season, he struggled to contain his frustration at the question.
“If you have intellectual dishonesty, you read it in a way, but the reality is different. Do you understand?" He said
“I knew that people would talk about a failure in case of elimination, but that’s intellectual dishonesty. I know the value of team. We’ve been using the same players for two months, we are in the race for the top four and the Coppa Italia. I have nothing to reproach the guys. They are doing extraordinary things."
Dusan Vlahovic rattled the bar mid way through the first half but the game unraveled for Juve in the 78th minute when Villareal were awarded a penalty after a VAR check, which was put away by Gerard Moreno. Within 14 minutes, Juve had conceded two more and were out of Europe.
Among those concerned by Juve's exit will be their rivals for the title as Juventus are now not going to be hampered by additional games in the Champions League. They are still in the Coppa Italia but can focus more on their relentless pursuit of the Scudetto.
The result means that Italy's only remaining representatives in Europe are Roma, who play Vitesse tonight in the UEFA Conference League – a game that Jose Mourinho says is his only focus despite the Rome derby coming up on Sunday.

Some good news for Roberto Mancini!
Ciao, ragazzi! This is Andrew with your Calcio Daily for Wednesday March 16th, our 202nd daily show in a row!
Hey! Send us a donation via the Fountain podcast app and subscribe to the channel on YouTube! You can also buy today's show as an NFT, the link is in the description.
The first of Roberto Mancini's wishes has come true as Italy's Minister for Health yesterday confirmed that he will allow the Stadio Barbera in Palermo to open to full capacity for Italy's World Cup Playoff game against North Macedonia in 8 days' time.
Although stadiums in Italy are currently restricted to 75 capacity, this restriction is expected to be lifted at the end of this month, so this decision is a lift for Mancini, who selected the Palermo ground for its vocal support so that extra 25% may make a big difference.
More good news for Mancini as well.
Ahead of tonight's Champions League Round of 16 second leg against Villareal, Juventus boss Max Allegri has confirmed that Azzurri captain Giorgio Chiellini is available for selection after being out for a month with a muscle injury. It was feared that Mancini would be without both of his first choice central defenders but this news means he is only sweating over the fitness of Chiellini's Juventus partner, Leonardo Bonucci.
Juventus take a 1-1 draw into tonight's game, making them favourites to go through but from this season, away goals do not count double in Europe.
Allegri will start with both Vlahovic and Morata up front, the Serbian bringing the best out of his Spanish striking partner since he moved from Fiorentina.

  • Record-Breaking Ciro! – Italian Football News 15 Mar 22

Lazio hail their all-time leading goalscorer.
Ciao, ragazzi! This is Andrew with your Calcio Daily for Tuesday March 15th, our 201st daily show in a row!

Ciro Immobile is one of the most prolific goal scorers in Serie A history but it is only in the light blue half of Rome where he is loved.
Last night, he cemented his place in Lazio history when his goal in the 1-0 win at home to Venezia making him the highest Serie A goalscorer in Lazio's history.
The Napolitan had already become their all-time top goalscorer across all competitions and now he has that crown in Serie A as well.
It makes him Lazio royalty. The player whose records he has taken is Italian legend Silvio Piola and as Immobile has already declared that he wants to end his career in Rome, there is plenty of scope for many, many more goals.
Immobile now sits on 144 Serie A goals. He is leading the Serie A goalscoring charts, the capocannonniere, ahead of Dusan Vlahovic, so with perhaps another two seasons at the top, there is scope for another 40-odd goals for Ciro.
The win for Lazio sees them jump ahead of both Atalanta and Roma into 5th place where competition for the Europa League spot is very tight indeed.
Immobile is also strongly expected to feature in the world cup play off between Italy and North Macedonia, which is only 9 days away but Mancini has some injury concerns ahead of the crucial game.
His talismanic defensive partnership of Bonucci and Chiellini is unlikely to feature, both players are currently injured. This could mean a place for Alessandro Bastoni or Francesco Acerbi in defence.
Spinazzola is still out with the achilles injury he sustained in Euro 2020, so Emerson Palmieri is likely to start on the left.
Mancini has to solve his attacking problem. He is determined to start with Ciro, so the question is going to be who is chosen to support him.

Inter fall further behind with a draw against Torino.
Ciao, ragazzi! This is Andrew with your Calcio Daily for Monday March 14th, our 200th daily show in a row!

Inter scored a late, late equaliser away to Torino last night to stay in the Scudetto race but they lost the advantage they held over leaders Milan as the game in hand they have is no longer enough to put them ahead of Milan, should they win it.

Milan are now three points ahead of Napoli in second but Inter are now an extra point further away.

Crucially, Juve are only 3 points behind Inter, making it a true four horse race!

Torino took a shock early lead through Bremer who swept home a corner after 12 minutes. Torino were denied a stonewall penalty for a foul on Belotti but amazingly, there was no VAR check.

Inter's equaliser in the 4th minute of stoppage time gave rise to more fury from Torino boss Juric. Sanabria lost the ball on the half way line, allowing Inter to break and when Dzeko found Alexis Sanchez who finished across the keeper.

A Victor Osimhen brace gave Napoli all three points as they bounced back from their awful performance on the big stage against Milan last week to beat Verona 2-1.

His first came from a throw in on 14 minutes. Politabo whipped his cross in and found his striker, who had made space between the Verona defenders to head home.

Another corner 20 minutes from time saw Di Lorenzo repeat the feat, this time finding Osimhen free at the near post to score.

Despite Verona pulling one back minutes later, Napoli held on for the win.

Elsewhere, a useful win for Fiorentina against Bologna 1-0, but the two teams that needed to win, Atalanta and Roma, could both only manage draws. Atalanta held 0-0 by Genoa and Roma needing another late, late penalty to draw 1-1 at Udinese.

Milan go 5 clear while Juve are a single point away from Napoli in third.

A good day yesterday for leaders Milan as well as Juventus and even Spezia.
Milan squeaked past Empoli 1-0 courtesy of a goal by Kalulu. The result puts Milan five points ahead of Inter, who have two games in hand and face Torino tonight.
Alvaro Morata chose a good time to put in his best performance in months, contributing two goals in a 3-1 win away at Sampdoria, who are really looking poor. Allegri started with Kean up front instead of Vlahovic, although the Serbian came on in the second half, and it turned out to be an easy run out.
Juve are now just a single point behind Napoli in third, who are in big danger of falling away unless they recover quickly against Verona today.
Spezia secured three vital points against fellow relegation candidates Cagliari. Goals from Erlic and Manaj moved Spezia 7 points away from the drop zone while Cagliari are in real peril – Just three points ahead of Venezia, who fill the third relegation spot but Venezia also have two games in hand.
Salernitana are 9 points away from safety. Their improvement seems to have come too late and is reflected in their 2-2 draw at home to Sassuolo. Salernitana went ahead early on but fell behind before half time. After Raspadori's red card, Djuric equalised with 10 minutes to go.
With both Inter and Napoli in action today, it could be a tense afternoon! Roma and Atalanta will also feel the heat as they try to hang on to Juve's coat tails for that precious fourth Champions League spot.

Juventus have the chance to get within a point of third-placed Napoli.

There is no massive standout game in Serie A this weekend, but here's a look at the games we do have.
Bottom-placed Salernitana should be well taken care of by Sassuolo in the first game of the weekend. We could see a hatful of goals, too as Sassuolo are capable of blowing teams away with their captain Berardi now a target for Milan.
That game kicks off at the same time as the game between Spezia and Cagliari. Cagliari have improved a bit and Spezia are wildly up and down, so anything could happen there. I'd still take a stab at Spezia taking the points.
Into the evening and Juventus have the chance to give Napoli the heebie jeebies! A win for Juve away at Sampdoria would put them just one point behind the Napolitans, who I think will be suffering some trauma from their insipid performance against Milan last week.
Max Allegri has not been endearing himself to the Juve fans recently, trumpeting the merit of ugly 1-0 wins while the fanbase want to see their team offer at least some style, but the black and white juggernaut keeps on rolling towards another title and those in their way know it.
Samp are in poor form and look poor too, so this has to be an easy win for Juve, despite their list of long term injury absentees.
Milan could end the day 5 points clear at the top from Inter if they beat Empoli at home. Empoli are without a win in a month although they did run Juventus close a couple of weeks ago and if there has been one area where Milan have constantly tripped themselves up and that is against teams they would be expected to beat comfortably so Empoli fit the mould.

  • Roma & Atalanta Ahead – Italian Football News 11 Mar 22

Good wins in Europe for Roma and Atalanta.

A good night in Europe for Italy's representatives in the Europa and Conference Leagues last night, both Atalanta and Roma coming out with decent wins.
Two goals from Luis Muriel helped Atalanta to a 3-2 win away at Germany's Bayer Leverkusen. Leverkusen absorbed early pressure from La Dea to go a goal up after 11 minutes after hitting the woodwork a couple of minutes earlier.
Neat play in the box between Malinovskyi and Muriel found the former with some space, which he used to calmly put away the equaliser after 23 minutes and just a couple of minutes later, the turnaround was complete with a classic Atalanta goal.
Great work by Toloi to dispossess Leverkusen and then feed Malinovskyi in midfield saw the Ukranian unleash a perfect through ball for Muriel to run through and score.
Four minutes after half time, Muriel got his second and Atalanta's third with a neat finish from the corner of the box.
Moussa Diaby made things closer with a goal half an hour from time but Atalanta held out for the win.
In the Conference League, Sergio Oliveira was both hero and villain as his first half injury time goal sealed the win for Roma away to Vitesse, but then game his teammates a nervy last 15 minutes when he was harshly red carded in the second half.
Back in Italy, the World Cup play off game against North Macedonia is only 2 weeks away and the Italian FA have requested an increase in stadium capacity for the game.
Currently, capacities are limited to 75% of maximum but for the game in Sicily, a special dispensation has been requested as the Azzurri hope to finally qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.
