"Too many of us--have been told, 'There's one way to understand Jesus' death, there is one way to interpret the Bible, there is one way to be a good Christian,' but the reality is that Christianity has always been more expansive and diverse than that."

In this episode of Called to be Bad, I talk with "professional nerd" Naiomi Gonzales about Jesus' death, or "atonement theories". We start off by learning why Naiomi is passionate about this topic and then Naiomi describes the various theories proposed throughout history of why Jesus died the death he did. Did Jesus HAVE to die? What did is death accomplish, if anything? We end up discussing why some of the theories are helpful, why some aren't, and why we may need to hold several theories together to have the most complete picture.
