Calling the Dawgs

DISCLAIMER: we recorded this episode the day before it was announced that Branson had ruptured his patella tendon. We wish him a speedy recovery and know he'll be back better than ever!

The 2023 college football season is now upon us. The Dawgs begin their quest for a 3rd straight National Championship (did those words just come out of my mouth?) in just a few short days. In this Season Preview, we discuss the starting QB announcement, the game schedule, and we break down each position to see where the Dawgs' strengths and (potential) weaknesses are.

Welcome to the 6th annual season of the Calling the Dawgs podcast. We are happy to have you here and hope that you follow along with us throughout the 2023 Georgia Football Season!

It's Spring in Athens and the Dawgs just wrapped up Spring Ball with the annual G-Day scrimmage. We discuss what we saw and if you should put much weight on anything from the game. Then, we dive into the Dawgs who are heading to the NFL. Where will big names like Jalen Carter and Darnell Washington go? Where will The Mailman go? Listen in for our take!

Never in our wildest dreams did we think this would happen. The University of Georgia Bulldogs are National Champions for the second year in a row.

Wow. We couldn't imagine a better way to start off the New Year than the Miracle at Midnight to send us back to the National Championship for the 2nd year in a row. Give Ohio State a lot of credit. They played their best game at the best time. But our boys found a way to win, and Ohio State didn't make the final play that mattered. Now, we've got TCU in Los Angeles. Don't be fooled, they are a very good team led by Heisman finalist Max Duggan. Their offense is great and their defense can be stingy. We've got to have that DAWG in us. And we think we will.

GO DAWGS! BEAT TCU!

The playoff is here. The Dawgs take on Ohio State at 8:00 PM on New Year's Eve. Winner goes to LA for the National Championship. It's a two-game season at this point. Nothing else matters. The last team to win back-to-back National Championships was Alabama a decade ago. It is very rare in the sport. We wouldn't mind making a little history in early January.

The Dawgs are back to their rightful place on the SEC throne. The final score didn't really do that performance justice. We demolished them in the 1st half and were able to burn the clock for most of the 2nd half. There were still a few hiccups in this game. In particular, we gave up 500 passing yards and turned the ball over again. But, you give Coach Smart a month to prepare, and he'll get that taken care of. We're playing Ohio State on New Year's Eve for a chance to go to the big one. What a time to be a Dawg!

The Dawgs finish back-to-back seasons without a defeat for the 1st time in the history of Georgia Football. And we're back in Atlanta for the 5th time in the last 7 years. The best part is, we ain't done yet. We owe the Bayou Bengals.

GO DAWGS! BEAT LSU!

There once was a time when Georgia Tech was a competitive ball team. Those times are over. Let's give thanks for our many blessings this season and cap it off with a nice exhibition game this weekend before the showdown with the Tigers.

The Dawgs wrapped up the SEC East last weekend with a dominating 2nd half against Mississippi State. This week, we've got Kentucky, a team coming off of a home loss to VANDERBILT. We expect our boys will not skip a beat. We're trying not to look too far ahead, but it's pretty hard when you look at who we have to play the last two games of the regular season. Take care of Kentucky and finish the regular season with our annual exhibition against Tech, then it's on to LSU in Atlanta.

Go Dawgs! Beat the Wildcats!
