Callosm - Science meets Art episodes

  • Ep 3.2 Lifestyle Medicine Part 2 - Science meets Spirituality

This episode discusses the merging of science and spirituality. Dr. Amit very beautifully presents the differences between pleasure, happiness, joy and bliss (ananda). The conversation shines light upon the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda, the neuroscience of prayer and meditation, and breathing techniques like the physiological sigh and double breathing for relieving anxiety.

I was really enlightened by Dr. Amit's life philosophy and loved understanding where it comes from. I hope you listen to him with an open mind and enjoy his thoughts and words.

It's a long episode, so no music this time :(! You'll hear it in the next one though :)

  • Ep 3.1 Lifestyle Medicine Part 1

In this episode, I host Dr. Amit Aggarwal MD, a physician, yoga practitioner and an  ayurveda enthusiast. We discuss lifestyle medicine - the thing I wish medical practitioners discussed more often with their patients. I was blown away with the alternate approaches that I was made aware of, for conditions ranging from common cold to mental health problems and their connection with the gut. It really opened up my mind to the viewpoint that there are multiple ways of looking at health and wellbeing and yet again, food, rest and mobility are key to a good quality of life.

As always, thank you for support and happy listening ! :)

  • Ep 2.2 - Achieving Optimum Performance through Habit and Self-Discipline

In the second part of my conversation with Dr. Ameya, we discuss his roles as chief team physician for Team India in the ongoing Paris Paralympics 2024. We then speak about the various methods he uses to achieve optimum performance from his athletes. Here he emphasizes the regulation of the holy trifecta - exercise, nutrition and sleep. We end the episode by discussing the role of discipline, empathy and gratitude in any kind of performance, be it the battlefield, the arena, the stage, or the exams.

And just when we thought she could not blow our minds any further than she already has, Aditi very casually slips in a Bollywood cover from Kabir Singh..
You are going to really enjoy this one!

  • Ep 2.1 - A Career in Sports Science; Supporting India in the Paralympic Games Paris 2024

In this episode, my guest (and schoolmate) Dr. (Maj) Ameya Kagali very intricately breaks down the difference between sports science, sports medicine, and orthopaedics, explaining their potential as post-MBBS career options. He speaks of the less travelled road he took, and how it ended up with him as the chief team physician for the Indian Paralympic Team. We then create some buzz for the upcoming Paris 2024 Paralympics, and express our hopes to see Team India shine with multiple victories! Lastly, he adds how working closely with para-athletes changed him as a person...

Our musical guest is Aditi Dahikar, a third-MBBS student and an exceptional singer-songwriter, presenting one of her originals - Shayad.

Hope you love the episode. Cheers!

  • Ep 1.2 - Plant vs Animal Protein, Low Carb and Fasting for Health and Longevity

In the second part of my conversation with Dr. Chirag, we discuss peer-reviewed literature on animal and plant protein under the contexts of muscle building, longevity and brain health. We then shift to the different modes of calorie restriction, emphasizing its role in longevity, as studied in mice. We end the episode by discussing the science around fasting, low carbohydrate diets and the role of creatine monohydrate as a muscle and brain supplement.

Lastly, Dr. Chirag answers some personal questions about his taste in cinema and alternate careers he would consider if he wasn't a neurosurgeon.

In the musical part, I perform I'm Fine, a song (yet to be released) I wrote during the pandemic while working as a frontline worker in the midst of a personal crisis.

  • Ep 1.1 - Optimum Protein Intake based on your Needs and Goals

In this episode my guest Dr. Chirag - a neurosurgeon and fitness enthusiast, and I discuss how much protein we really need, based on our activity and goals. The literature has been confounding, with too many trains of thought. At times like these, our best bet is to direct our attention towards the recent peer-reviewed literature. We discuss what high-impact papers say about the recommended dietary allowance (RDA), advantages and disadvantages of whey protein protein supplementation, plant versus animal protein and creatine monohydrate as a supplement for not just muscle, but also the brain.

Lastly, I take the reins of the musical half of this semi-episode performing Miss Gravity, an unreleased song from my upcoming album A Textbook of Bad Decisions.

    Thank you for listening!

PS. 1.1 is part one of this episode. The rest of it is published as 1.2.
