Part memoir and part Chicago remembrances of the last 20+ years. Dish on Chicago music, bars, unique characters, odd jobs and zesty stories of questionable life choices with the city and the author being your travel guide. This is the dedication of author Cally Raduenzel's "Chicago Stories: An Outsider's View from the Inside".
Cally talks about and plays snippets from Way of the West" an 80's brit band she found crate digging, she also talks about French Canadian comix, art, and finding comedy in tough times. Just a little break from the same ol' shit!
The best things about legendary Chicago corner bars like Phyllis' Musical Inn, Chicago live music and Mike Felten (a musical troubadour since the 60's). His story as well as many other cool "insider's view from an outsider"... Cally our author gives the light hearted skinny on these topics and more...so much more! Sick of depressing reality talk, here's a nice break!
Get on your treadmill, start up your car, hop on the L Train and listen to my most poignant thoughts which will be anchored in comedy. Ramble with me for a hot 23 minutes as I solve the problems of the world while listening to some cool ass music and giving you the straight dope on this fine Sunday morning in Rogers Park, Chicago, USA! Headphones ready...let's go!
Music, mayhem and connecting the dots! My love of all things weird and wonderful and the road to possibly finding a new vision for Chicago Stories my book of "fly on the wall" moments. Talking here about lost bands, reads and places that need rediscovering.
David Berman was a great song writer who killed himself. BUT he left behind one of the most profound YET bouncy/ poignant/ and unforgettable music albums with his band Purple Mountains. He was a smart man, deep soul, wordsmith and in my humble opinion genius. His music greatly affected my life and he is the topic of one of my Chicago Stories....hear about him now and some other fine gab on this podcast. Lunatic Find/Stories from the Edges of Music and Media!!! #DavidBermanMusic #PurpleMountainsMusic #DragCity #ChicagoMusicians #LocalMusic #CriticalThinking #ImportantShit #DeepThoughts
Two of my favorite "new" Chicago bands you may not know about and will love. Neal Franics is funky, instantly gratifying and will hook your ear from the get go. We will be talking about him on Lunatic Fringe. The Metalliques and smoky, haunting and like watching a movie in a song- they will put a spell on you...don't fight it! #metalliques #nealfrancismusic
We will also talk about a couple of cool local bars you need to check out- Montrose Saloon and Phyllis Musical Inn both great local live music haunts
This is one of the stories from my soon to be published book "Chicago Stories: An Outsiders View from the Inside". These are true life tales by yours truly shared for your reading/listening pleasure! I hope they inspire some fun conversations about your personal "Chicago Stores"...this specific story is about the perils and pleasures of "Riding The L". Enjoy while driving or making breakfast! Ahhh the beauty of audio!
Cally will re-introduce Lunatic Fringe her podcast, which focuses on stories from the edges of music and media. She will discuss lively topics from local dive bars like Phyllis' Musical Inn to author/artist Dmitry Samarov and how he influenced the conception of her book. She'll also tell you a little bit about her forthcoming book Chicago Stories: An Outsiders View from the Inside. Crate-digging musical finds and lots of juicy bits will tempt your ear!
