There will be those times that we may think being out of the church is better than being in the church. But as Paul warned the centurion and the soldier onboard the ship with them during the storm, except you above in the ship you cannot be saved. We must remain in the church.

Throughout scripture we find that God's ways are not our ways, nor are His thoughts like our thoughts. But when God's ways do not align with some folks ways and/or thinking, they become upset and accuse God of not being fair or equal.

The Lord desires His people to be faithful and mature in service to HIm. Some attributes that we should strive to have in our lives are among the following: adding to our joy, avoiding sin, avoiding false teachers and prophets, and strengthing our faith and ensuring our salvation. We will briefly discuss these four attributes during this series.

Paul said that the Gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ (I Cor. 25:1-5). And if we are ashamed of it or if it is hidden, people will remain lost. The Gospel is Christ's doctrine, not only what He Himself preached when on Earth, but it is a doctrine concerning Him; concerning His Deity, and the self-possession of His person, and His office as a mediator, and salvation for all. And this Gospel is the only means by which we can be saved.

The writer mentions four reasons for writing the epistles. To add to their joy; to guard them against sin; to warn them against false teachers and to strengthen their faith in Christ and to ensure them of eternal life.

To purge is to take away or remove anything that is not wanted or that may be causing us hindrance. To rid oneself of whatever is impure or undesirable; cleanse; purify. To clear of guilt. To free from moral or ceremonial defilement. Pail's writing to the church calls for us to purge out the old leaven (sin) that we may be a new lump (righteous).
