We began last week our study in 2 Chronicles. David has died and Solomon is now king over Israel.

This is the apex of Jewish history, a time of peace and prosperity.

Paul planted the church around 50-51A.D. on his second missionary journey (Acts 17). Paul was only there for about 3-4 weeks (Acts 17:1-9) we see Paul coming to Thessalonica and preaching Jesus in the Synagogue. Some of the Jews were persuaded, some became envious (jealous). The Jews got some evil men from the market place to form a mob and attacked the house of Jason (someone who having Paul and Silas stay with them), dragged him before the authorities and accused them of acting against Caesar. They were accused of “turning the world upside down…”

Though written as one book it is easily divided at this juncture as Davids reign ends and Solomons begins.

The major focus is now on the tribe of Judah in the southern kingdom all the way through to their Babylonian captivity.

This morning I wanted to begin a little 4 week series I’m titling, “Crash Course” as in the next 4 weeks, I’ll be teaching four topical messages that are going to become part of ongoing messages taught once a month in a class we will be calling “Crash Course” which is designed to help those who are new to our church or who have been with us for some time but are unsure what our churches beliefs are and how we operate and how they can best fit into the vision God has given us here at Calvary Chapel Bakersfield to reach our city and our world for Jesus Christ.

Happy Father’s Day. Most of us are aware of King David’s life from studying the Old Testament, especially the books of 1&2 Samuel, Kings and Chronicles along with many of Psalms he penned.

From studying David’s life we learn he was called by God Himself, “a man after My own heart”. David was a worshipper who had a deep love for God.
