In today’s text, we’ll run across a “seedy” character, a preeminent pastor named Diotrephes, who refuses to receive some mission workers recommended by the apostle John himself. Not only does he reject these missionaries, he has the gall to speak maliciously against John. By his bad treatment of these missionaries and his harsh words against John, Diotrephes endangers himself by violating a directive given to all of us in the Word of God: “We are not to touch God’s anointed […]

John gives us this amazing promise in today’s text that “whatever we ask of God, we already know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.” Now I don’t know about you, but I don’t always get what I ask of God. But the problem isn’t with God’s promise, it is with me–There are conditions for getting prayers answered that I don’t always meet. We will examine those conditions in today’s study so that we can be […]

There have been all sorts of surveys taken over the last few years to determine how many Americans still claim to be “born again.” The results range from 20-40% of Americans who identify themselves as “born again” Christians. The reason there is such a wide range in the results is that there is so much confusion among so-called Christians about what it truly means to be “born again.” That’s why 1 John is such an important book, because in this […]
