The Cecil Hotel opened up December 20, 1924. The hotel was first built to be a luxury hotel but became more of a scandalous hotel after the great depression failed to build the business. Since the opening of the hotel there had been at least 16 murders, suicide, overdoses and unexplained paranormal activity.
