It's claimed children with complex needs across Clare have been left in a void due to a lack of resources and school spaces.
It follows reports of parents travelling over 40km to find spaces for children with autism and downsyndrome at second level.
A campaign has since been launched to establish a new secondary school catering for special needs in West Clare.
Speaking in the Dáil Shannon Sinn Féin TD Donna McGettigan outlined the case of several constituents.
Meanwhile, efforts are being made by one woman to set up a secondary school for children with special needs in West Clare.
