The God of the Bible is a God who makes himself known ... communicates with the people he has made, shows what he is like. And the way that he has made himself known most clearly is through Jesus.

Churches need to regularly step back and say "Who are we? And what are we here for?" Colossians one is a great place to get the answers to those questions.

How should people who trust in Jesus respond to the religious pluralism we have in our society? How do we maintain the idea that Jesus is "the way, the truth and the life"? Paul gives us a great model in Acts 17.

The final chaper of Jonah is where we find out the point to this book. God shows just how gracious and compassionate he can be. If the Ninevites can respond to God when just a few words are spoken ... why can't Israel hear what God says to them?

People often think the God of the Bible is spiteful & vengeful … watching from heaven to find things to punish us for. But God’s overwhelming desire is to show compassion & forgiveness. We see it clearly in the story of Jesus … but above all we see it in Jesus.

From inside the great fish Jonah calls out to the Lord in prayer. All the things Jonah says in his prayer may be true ... but there is nothing to suggest he is in the slighest sincere in his prayer.

The book of Jonah is not so much a book of prophecy but a book about a prophet. Jonah is called to go to Nineveh but chooses to run away from God in the opposite direction.
