When you understand and accept the truth about Jesus ... who he is and what he came to do ... then you are set free to live life the way it was meant ot be lived.

What becomes clear in this chapter is Jesus has a fixed agenda, is committed to his timing and has a clear message. He will go to Jerusalem ... but not to win over the crowd ... but to die on the cross ... and Jesus will pick the time.

John 6 shows a remarkable progression. It begins with the feeding of the 5000 and the people wanting to make Jesus king. But the chapter closes with people walking away from Jesus and no longer wanting to follow him.

What stands at the heart of this passage is "taking Jesus at his word". It is what Jesus expected then. It is whatis still expected today.

In John 3 Jesus speaks to Nicodemus ... the complete insider. In chapter 4 he talks to a Samaritan woman ... the complete outsider. But the offer to both is the same: Eternal life for those willing to believe in and trust Jesus.

John 3 contains the most famous sentence inthe whole Bible: For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16) So how are "believing" and being "born again" connected?

John chooses to start his Gospel with 2 unusual incidents from the life of Jesus ... but 2 incidents that show who Jesus is and what he has come to do.

When you read through John 1 it seems John the Baptist should change his name to John the Witness. John is Witnessing ... point people to Jesus ... and even 2 of John's disiples leave John to start followng Jesus.

John starts his Gospel in a very different way to the other Gospel writers. He shows us that Jesus is God in the flesh ... and he shows us how we should respond to him: Recieve & believe.

The very first people to DOUBT the resurrection were in fac Jesus closest friends ... and John tells us about them in John 20.
