Season 2 Episode 32:
"Gone to the RCC Library." Those were the last words of Cheri Jo Bates, scrawled on a note for her father. Estranged from her mother with an older brother that had flown the nest, Cheri Bates and her father had formed a close bond. In October 1966, Cheri was 18 years old and enjoying her time as a student at Riverside City College. She was a master of all trades, and aspired to a career as a Stewardess.
On a fateful October day, Cheri spent the morning at church with her father, and then went home to gather her things while her father sunbathed at the local beach. Cheri had a research paper to work on and planned to go the the library on campus to get some of her work done that evening. Her father never saw her alive again.
The next morning after a series of events, a groundskeeper called law enforcement. The body of Cheri Bates was found lying in an alleyway, brutally beaten and stabbed. The only clues to her murder were the unidentified hairs clutched in her hand, and a Timex watch lying nearby. The distributor wire had been manually disconnected on her beloved Volkswagen Beetle.
Theories are aplenty on possible suspects in this case. Was it the jealous ex boyfriend who moved out of the country? Was it a library worker that had made everyone uncomfortable? Was she actually an original victim of the Zodiac Killer? OR, are the last two actually the same person?
