While Ty is still away on sabbatical, Ray Ranfill joins Heavy and Gustav for a very special Christmas episode.

Stealing a page from the Partial Recall playbook, Heavy tries to pass off a fake sponsor.  He's feeling creative this episode, therefore if you are a fan of Heavy's style, then you won't be disappointed.  His fake sponsor Bill Bailey's Bowel busters leads to chamber pot and outhouse talk followed up by a most unfortunate tale about the improper use of a trough urinal at the Devil's Bowl Speedway.

Gustav files a field report about a tiny town's Christmas parade that he went to earlier in the day.  That gets the guys thinking about the parades of old in small 903 towns.  Then it's finally time for the moment that Heavy had been waiting for.  He shares with the listeners his newest Christmas magnum opus, A Very Heavy Christmas.  We're not sure if it's classified as a poem or a story, but either way, we think you will enjoy it.  It's full of Can You Hear Me goodness and he's quiet proud of himself.

After the Christmas prose, Gustav enlightens the group on the online phenomenon of teabagging someone in a game and how he had to educate his boys about what teabagging really means.

Heavy and Gustav then turn their sights on special guest Ray Ranfill and callback to a previous episode where he had written in and made reference to the "True Love Waits" movement which came along a few years after the guys were out of high school.

The rest of the episode is a scattershooting mess with high stakes backgammon talk, the effect of Native American casinos on the baby boomers of the 903 area code, Gustav well actuallying Ray about oxygen tanks and fire, more goofy stuff Gustav's kids say and finally some more Christmas decorations talk.

Episode 43 finds the Can You Hear Me podcast ready for bedding follow up, listener email, offgrid living and space diarrhea.  Ty couldn't make it so a special guest sits in the third chair and provides needed emotional support.

We got feedback on the recent episode about bedding and quilt talk from Valley Butcher and Tellito.  Tellito's story about his youthful winter sleeping arrangements leads the guys down the path of discussing the Polynesian's parents journey toward off-grid living in the Rocky Mountains.

And finally there is some confusion about the astronaut that drove cross country wearing a diaper as she sought out her rival in a NASA love triangle.  As Jay put it, "this is why this isn't a news podcast."  But astronaut diaper talk brought up the specter of space diarrhea, which has to be the worst diarrhea of all.  Heavy is also disturbed by a current commercial on KTCK that discusses what your "number two" looks like.  Gustav had hoped to include the commercial's most offensive elements, but he couldn't snag the audio in time for this episode.

In one of the most string of consciousness episodes to date, the Can You Hear Me gang deals with listener emails, mattress talk, rodeos, an estate sale surprise and much much more.

Never afraid to show just how old they are the guys head straight into the ditch with eighties country music talk followed up with a charming review of a Red River Valley diner that existed back in the early nineties.  Then if that wasn't enough to show that they are old men, they spend a segment talking about old quilts and mattresses.

An email from Crandyman Ray Ranfill himself pulls us out of the ditch for a little while until Ty fires off some hot sports opinions about the phenomenon of the father/daughter dance.

Gustav had been saving the tale of an Estate Sale Surprise that he encountered years ago.  But this seemed like as good a time as any.  Find out what he found and why you should make arrangements with a trusted friend to get rid of all of your most depraved sexual possessions.  The poor old women running this estate sale had no idea what this bag full of leather and steel accoutrements where when they picked up and priced each item.  But your friend Gustav knew.

Good dude Tom sent an email asking the guys if they had ever been in any rodeo events and tells us how he survived his own rodeo career.  Because Tom loves Popeye's Chicken, they guys then spend some time talking about fried chicken and Gustav tells how he's on a low-to-no carb diet which is unfathomable to Heavy.

The crew is back to normal this week with a tale of a running beaver, email, old shirt talk, and examples of Monteblanc bullshitting being a genetic trait.  After two fairly serious and intellectual episodes, we returned to our natural style of aimless rambling.  This episode is sponsored by KJ of Partial Recall fame. Right out of the gate the gentlemen fire off some old man opinions about flip flops.

Gustav keeps the momentum going by telling how his sons are carrying on the fine tradition of talking about things they have no clue about and failing at telling jokes.  Heavy then recalls what it was like to be around a young Gustav and tells the unfortunate tale of when he listened to Gustav about the constellation of Subaru (not the crunchy granola car company).

Cody sends us an email which at first is dark but opens up the question of what do you call a group of hobos?  A murder of hobos, a herd of hobos, a harem of hobos?  I wish we knew.  Then he asks us about non-native species encountered in North Texas.  It may surprise you, but Heavy has a lot to say about this.  This leads to big cat (cougar, puma, mountain lion, sabertooth, etc.) and then ultimately Heavy's running beaver story. Much to the dismay of Gustav, Heavy is now updating his classic tale of the running beaver.

They then somehow get onto old shirt talk, bedding talk and go off on a Richard Gere tangent.  It's hard to keep track of how these things go from point A to point B.  In response to Cody's email, Heavy talks about old cartoons from World War II where we first heard of gremlins and got some very adult level messages due to wartime propaganda in the form of a cartoon.

The Can You Hear Me team tackles the Dunning-Kruger Effect, existentialism, cosmology and a lot more along the way in this week's episode.  In previous episodes, Ty had made a list of potential topics he would like to discuss and this week we finally get around to making him happy.

Gustav gets the ball rolling by telling how his oldest son has no problem pontificating with extreme conviction about things he barely has any knowledge about.  In the Monteblanc household, a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing.  This segues perfectly into Ty's explanation of the Dunning-Kruger Effect.  He explains the nature of the situation where dumb people think they are smarter than they are.  The guys then discuss who they themselves could see how this applied to them over the course of their 0wn lives.

They then turn towards existentialism writer and wonder if we as a society have become too entertained and electronically engaged to ponder the deep ideas of existentialistist authors of the past as well as forging new ideas about what our purpose is and what our lives mean. Then Gustav poses a question about cosmology, space dust and geology that none of the crew has an answer to.

Episode 39 of the Can You Hear Me Podcast finds the boys talking about William F. Buckley Jr. and Gore Vidal.  Their televised debates during the 1968 presidential election conventions on ABC are the subject of the superb documentary "Best of Enemies", which at this time can be found on Netflix.

William F. Buckley Jr. was a paragon of conservatism during the second half of the 20th century, so it was only natural that Gore Vidal, the liberal writer and political hopeful would set his sights on him.  The crew discuss the documentary, Buckley's overall impact on the political landscape of the time and his long running television series "Firing Line" where Buckley engaged conservatives and liberals in thoughtful and often times lively debates.

But Gore Vidal was out for blood in the convention debates against Buckley and made things personal instead of philosophical.  Buckley fought back, but he was not suited for such tactics and Vidal goaded him to the point that Buckley lost his cool and snapped on live network television.

The guys discuss the long term impact both of the televised debates between Vidal and Buckley as well as the impact on the two great thinkers.  These debates were the direct ancestor of the political punditry that we are now inundated with.

It's a shame, but due to the brown drink, over 30 minutes of stories which the phrase "thirty seconds of fury" originated in had to be edited out to protect the guilty.  But there is still plenty of nonsense and listener emails to make it worth your while.

At the start, Gustav is feeling nostalgic for the days of the early eighties when watching music videos out in the country meant having to wait for Friday Night Videos to come on or to catch a syndicated video show hosted by Bo and Jim from Q102, now KZPS.  There was no cable out in the country, so no MTV, unless you were one of the lucky ones with a giant satellite dish out in the yard and some sort of probably illegal decoder on top of your Zenith or Quasar fake wood paneled tv set.

The great Austin finally sent us in an email and he asks who would we cast to play ourselves in the inevitable blockbuster feature film adaptation of the Can You Hear Me podcast. Please email or tweet us who you would like to see portray your favorite educated hillbillies on the silver screen.  Austin also shares with us a wonderfully weird artifact from the sixties called "Communism, Hypnotism, and the Beatles" by David E. Noebel.  We weren't aware that the three were related.  It sounds more like a Can You Hear Me episode title instead of an actual book.

Long time good time West Texas Travis sends us an email that disturbs all three members.  Then JJ warms our hearts with a tale of fisticuffs as he stands up to some Houston punks.  We also lay the foundation for our upcoming William F. Buckley Jr. episode so be sure to do your homework and watch "Best of Enemies" on Netflix to learn the background of the Gore Vidal and William F. Buckley debates during the 1968 presidential election.

The full crew is back for this week's episode where Ty makes a list, we lay out our campaign platform for our 2020 presidential run and Ty yells at other people's kids. After having been AWOL for three episodes, Ty graces us with his presence and is sporting quite the salt and pepper beard.   During his self-determined sabbatical, he was busy making a list of things he wanted to talk about.

But first we tackle a listener email from Valley Butcher.  He wanted to know what our campaign platform would be.  Gustav does his best to answer honestly, but Ty and Heavy just tie it back to one of Ty's list topics, which was yelling at other people's kids.  Ty recalls two recent instances of him going all old man on some wayward youths.  Then Heavy recounts his recent intervention against a Yankee yelling at a girl at a volleyball game.

Then Gustav continues his campaign against Professor Brad's assertions that "buildings have gravity  which makes people jumping off of them  pull toward the buildings" and "all the blood is in his stomach."  After Brad's recent use of his bully pulpit at the "Below the Belt" podcast, Gustav couldn't let the issue lie without having a formal public refutation.

Episode 36 is a special bonus Halloween episode because Heavy and Gustav care about the listener, unlike Ty, who was busy being an international over 40 male model.  Undaunted, Heavy and Gustav take the listener on a horror hayride through the spooky haunts of the 903 area code.

To get the ball rolling, the boys look fondly back on how trick or treating is done in rural area and a small town.  Their experience isn't the stereotypical idea of walking door to door.  Then they jump ahead to the hooligan years of teenage mischief on Halloween.  We weren't bad kids, but we certainly pushed the boundaries.  The world is a lot different than it was back in the eighties and nineties and I'm not sure you could get away with what we were up to back then in today's environment.

Heavy then talks about how terrified he was when he watched the Blair Witch Project.  He assures us that it was because he had been in some weird spots out in the 903 area code.  A few tales of strange goings on and supposed Satanic rituals at the old campground may have you siding with Heavy.  Be sure to stop and enjoy Heavy's most spooky tale (wind sound effects included).  Gustav then recounts two odd occurrences that have happened in the last year and how he can't explain them.

Only two of the guys are back for Episode 35 where Gustav and Heavy discuss politics, Six Flags and are just crotchety in general.

Ty is absent without leave, so despite Gustav formally declaring he doesn't want to talk about politics, Heavy draws him into a lively discussion about how bad things are right now, our tendency to engage in good ol'days nostalgia about politics of the past and the prophetic nature of Mike Judge's film, Idiocracy.

Gustav talks about his recent trips to Six Flags and how different it is as a middle aged man than how it was in their youth.  He also points out how much he dislikes children that aren't his own.

They then do some light banter about television, rant about social media and are generally grumpy old men for a few minutes.
