After some tense negotiations, Everett led the team back to New Haven to collect evidence to present to Keighley about what happened to the mortal detective’s sister. Martha spent the car ride learning more about Chet Mango, and Val grew silently emotional when Sheriff Cross came up in conversation about the cult’s other crimes. But can Everett prove vampires are real and bring Keighley to New Haven without being forced to kill him?

After swearing in Everett’s father, the department received a call from Detective Keighley telling them to meet at a nearby McDonalds. On the way there, Chet Mango was distracted by Michael Arden’s potential birthday before Everett lied to smooth things over. Arriving as instructed, Everett left for a secondary location to meet Keighley while the other kindred stayed behind. Can Everett bring Keighley in, or will he be forced to kill the mortal detective?

On the ride back from Eavesgrove, Everett fell into a paranoia compulsion but still managed to comfort his mother when he returned and ended up sleeping in the bedroom she provided for him. The next night Martha made tea for the people she had lost, Val survived a follow-up conversation with Will, and when they all arrived at the office, Everett realized he’d need to invent an oath to swear in his father as his newest officer.

Closing out the night after the department exorcised the ghosts of their fallen foes, Everett took Chet Mango to Eavesgrove where the two successfully mindwiped their first target. Martha was exhausted from the ghostly ordeal and really just wanted to rest, while Val took Will to Dairy Cream for a treat that led to yet another hard conversation about Will’s desire to become a vampire.

Having defeated hostile spirits, and discovered that the fallen mortal officers of New Haven have formed a protective “Ghost Squad” in the afterlife, the coterie took stock of their situation. Val made sure the daytime squad felt supported and safe. Martha visited Thea in the hospital but didn’t tell her Matthew Sumner had died, and Everett started driving Chet Mango to Eavesgrove to stop its ongoing threat to the Masquerade

All three members of the Sheriff’s Department had been possessed. Everett was trapped inside Torpor Springs, Val in the Brujah fighting pits, and Martha was back in Bits & Bobs. They could have been lost forever, except they were rescued by the ghosts of the fallen mortal members of the department. These dead heroes gave the coterie a chance to destroy the haunted polaroid at the centre of this nightmare. When they did the evil ghosts disappeared, and the department learned they’d lost Matthew Sumner.

With Everett and Val possessed by ghosts from their past, it was up to Martha to exorcise her compatriots. Leaving the mortal officers outside, Martha entered the haunted apartment and found herself in a spiritual battle with Thea’s adopted son’s ghost inside Thea’s body. After chanting didn’t work, and hostility led to the demise of an unseen hostage, Martha heroically offered herself up as a vessel for Daniel to possess. Will her sacrifice work, or has Martha doomed the entire Sheriff’s Department?

As the department faced a supernatural hostage situation, Val and Everett were goaded into action by ghosts from their past. Martha watched as Everett was possessed by the fallen Prince Toastarosa and Val was possessed by the late Brian Tombstone. Now it’s up to Martha - the only vampire still in control of herself - to save Thea, Everett’s father, Val, Everett, and any other hostages from the ghosts of all of their collective pasts.

As the team hurried towards the VMFPB, Martha’s mind wandered into the past, and she relived the darkest night of her mortal life. She remembered the occult store she co-owned with Thea, Bits & Bobs, and a battle with Thea’s adopted son Daniel over expensive artwork that ultimately forced Martha to take his life. With new clues burning in her mind from this memory as she hurries into a hostage situation - will this knowledge help her defeat the coming threat or will it distract her and cost her everything?

The mind-wiping, birthday party-obsessed freelancer Chet Mango arrived at the station, and Everett attempted and failed to bargain him down to a lower rate. Martha then told Val and the Sheriff about all the recent mysterious happenings, as well as her past and how she had taken the life of one of Thea’s sons. But as she looked inward to read her own aura and focused on the VMFPB, she saw Thea’s sons lunging at her, and Barty rushed in yelling about a hostage situation.
