In the interview Derek talks to host Peter Bean about his coaching style and impressive resume of work with the Cardinals, Yale Academy and Sandlots baseball BC. He also talks about the current level of talent in the BC Premier League. Derek reviewed the history of the Cardinals program as well as the teams core philosophy of developing good people above all else. Derek also covered some recent alumni of the program who were drafted or signed by Major League clubs including Kurtis Kostuk and Jared Mortensen.

    In this episode of the Canadian Baseball Network Podcast we profile the Great Lake Canadians with Adam Stern. Adam has a lengthy history in Canadian baseball. He was drafted in the 3rd round in 2001 by the Atlanta Braves and played 5 seasons in the major leagues for the Boston Red Sox, Milwaukee Brewers and Baltimore Orioles. He is a two time Olympian and spent 8 year with the Canadian National Team. He also appeared in the 2006 and 2009 WBC. In the first half of the interview we talk to Stern about his history with baseball. In the second half we talk in depth about the Great Lake Canadians program, which is a newcomer to the amateur baseball scene in southern Ontario.

  • Episode 32 - Drafted Canadians - Kurtis Kostuk
    In this episode of the Canadian Baseball Network Podcast we profile the 20th drafted Canadian Kurtis Kostuk. Kurtis was drafted in 38th round (1140th overall) by the Arizona Diamondbacks. Shortly after the draft Kurtis signed his professional contract and began his pro career. He was the first Canadian to sign from the 2013 draft class.
    In the first half of this episode we speak to Kurtis’ coach from multiple different levels, Corey Eckstein. Corey provides a scouting report on Kurtis’ development. In the second part of the episode we speak to Kurtis himself about his draft experience and the start of his pro career.
