Jody received her first breast cancer diagnosis at 39. No insurance (and pre-affordable care act) she had to wait over a year to get a suspicious lump check out, which turned out to be breast cancer. After a double mastectomy, chemotherapy & radiation, Jody beat it!
Sadly, the cancer came back just 4 years later. Though at the time, she was made to feel like she was being paranoid and forced to wait 6 more moths before anything was done. Jody was told at that time she was stage 4 and there wasn't much they could do other than make her comfortable. Thankfully, she sought a second opinion and the surgical oncologist at Chapel Hill had a different idea about her diagnosis. He successfully treated her cancer for a second time.
This past June, Jody felt another weird lump in her lymph nodes, which has now been confirmed as stage 4 cancer. She is going through chemotherapy, and fighting as hard as anyone can, because in her words "my boobs are not going to kill me". She has 2 young daughters to fight for and a wonderful group of friends supporting her. We are honored to be among them after meeting her today and feel privileged to share her story with you.
