  • "Listen and Take Note" with Martin Austwick

    Who’s listening?

This piece was created with Martin Austwick for the Audio Flux "3D" call for submissions. The requirements were:

    • Run exactly three minutes
    • Take inspiration from one of four 3D images curated from Eric Drysdale’s collection (https://www.audioflux.org/circuit-05)
    • Include the sound of laughter
    • Immerse listeners in a place, through sound (stereo, spatial, binaural recordings encouraged!)

  • Lessons from Global Resistance (Disrupting Peace S2 Trailer)

Needless the say, the past few months have been really challenging, intense, and disorienting for many of us here in the US. But one bright spot for me has been producing Lessons from Global Resistance, the latest season of the Disrupting Peace podcast.

Host Bridget Conley looks around the world – and here in the US – to learn about how people resist efforts to concentrate political power. She speaks with the former president of Costa Rica about leading without a military, a member of South Korea’s parliament about overturning martial law…and more.

If you’re looking for an episode to start with, I highly recommend “US: Fighting for Academic Freedom in Higher Education” which we just released last week.

Check out the show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen.

  • GUEST ARTIST: Julie Censullo's Procrastination

Julie Censullo is an audio producer based in Minneapolis, MN. As a freelance creative, she is really really good at executing large media projects and really really bad at doing minor, everyday tasks. You can find more of her work at www.juliecensullo.com.

Created for “Small Packages: The Art and Practice of Short Audio Storytelling”, a course by Talia Augustidis and Jules Bradley.

  • Walk Loop

I “folded” my neighborhood walk into 3 minute pieces. Then cut out a design, like a paper snowflake.

  • Waiting, Remembering (Version 2)

Back in October, I took a class called Body-Ody-Audio, taught by Kristina Loring. The point of the class was to learn how to make "sensorial, visceral audio": audio that makes people FEEL something in their body when they listen.

Our homework one week was to create a one-minute piece using field recording. It was supposed to convey an emotionally impactful event from our week…without any talking. For my piece, I tried to convey the feeling of waiting to hear back about something that I really cared about. I was stuck in this cycle of thinking about it, and trying not to, over and over again.

In this episode, you’ll hear the second version of the piece that I created. I made it by mixing together "Version 1" with the original three one-minute-long voice memos of just the sound of my breathing, plus singing bowls played by Mandy Hamilton.
