  • Originally a member of the "Frightful Four", enemies of the Fantastic Four, who had her under mind control until Professor Xavier helped break her free

  • Later revealed that she is a member of the Inhumans, mutated by the Terrigen Mists to provide their race with extraordinary powers – hers is prehensile hair

  • Fell in love with her distant cousin Black Bolt, and they married to become king & queen of the Inhumans

  • Temporarily joined the Fantastic Four as a replacement for Sue Richards

  • Gave birth to a son, Ahura, who became the Judy Winslow of the Marvel Universe

  • Has to fight off the advances of Black Bolt's brother, Maximus the Mad, on numerous occasions

  • Due to Black Bolt's powers, she serves as interpreter, a role she chafes at

  • She takes over as leader of the Inhumans upon Black Bolt's death in "Realm of Kings", and replaces Black Bolt in the Illuminati for a time

  • Helped rebuild Attilan during the Inhumanity storyline when the Terrigen Bomb exploded, creating thousands of new Inhumans

  • When Black Bolt was revealed to be alive, she attacked him for setting off the Terrigen Bomb and then abandoning her

  • She then had an affair with Johnny Storm, until Black Bolt returned and apologized to her

  • Abdicated the throne during the Inhumans vs. X-Men arc, wanting to establish a democracy among the Inhumans – also destroyed the Terrigen cloud in order to save mutants

  • As a result of that act, her hair began falling out, similar to her dying – she takes Primagen, which restores her hair and health

  • Miles was created to replace Peter Parker in Ultimate Universe, after Peter's death – opted to create a minority character to reflect diversity of Marvel readers – look was influenced by Donald Glover

  • Miles born to black father and Puerto Rican mother

  • Similarly to Peter Parker, Miles was bitten by spider – the spider was infused with formula based on Peter's blood – the spider crawled inside the duffel bag of the Prowler, a villain later revealed to be Miles' uncle Aaron – when Miles went to his uncle's house, the spider crawled out and bit him

  • Does not use his powers until he sees Spider-Man die thanks to Green Goblin – takes up the mantle, although initially shunned by public because he's wearing a copy of Peter's suit, and is yelled at that it's in bad taste

  • Recruited by SHIELD – Uncle discovers he's Spider-Man, and they battle – Aaron's weapons malfunction and explode, killing him

  • Venom symbiote takes over the scientist who created the spider that bit him, and attacks Miles' father, who he believes is Spider-Man – in the ensuing battle, the doctor is killed, along with Miles' mother – Miles quits heroics

  • Returns as Spider-Man, and his father learns the truth – disowns him – later returns and reveals he and Aaron used to be undercover agents working for SHIELD

  • Reveals his identity to his girlfriend Katie Bishop, who in turn reveals she and her parents are agents of Hydra

  • Secret Wars – the Ultimate and 616 Universes are merged, and Miles brought into the mainstream universe – his mother is restored in the process, thanks to Molecule Man – now patrols NYC as Spider-Man alongside Peter Parker

  • Civil War II – Ulysses, an Inhuman with precognitive abilities, foresees Miles killing Captain America – this sets off conflict, although the murder does not occur

  • Now a member of Champions – upcoming storyline called Outlawed will ban teenage heroes, and Miles will be big part of it

  • Robbie is a high school student working as a mechanic while taking care of his disabled brother Gabe

  • He borrows a car from his shop and uses it in a street race, unaware the car not only contains pills created by Calvin Zabo, aka Mr. Hyde, but that the car is possessed by a demonic spirit

  • Mercs shoot Robbie to retrieve the pills, and he is revived by the spirit in the car

  • The spirit is Eli Morrow, a satanic serial killer later revealed to be Robbie's uncle – Eli pushed Robbie's mother down the stairs, making him responsible for Gabe's disabilities

  • Robbie first uses the power to win races and earn money to take care of Gabe, but Eli grows tired of his power being "wasted", so he takes over Gabe in an attempt to kill a Russian mobster – Robbie fights the spirit, kills the mobster, and bonds with Eli's spirit – agrees to only kill people with evil souls

  • Later joined the Avengers – just finished a story arc called "Challenge of the Ghost Riders" where Robbie calls upon the Avengers and other Ghost Riders to help him exorcise Eli's spirit

Anthony & Doc travel to the Outback to visit the world of THE MAXX! This 90s comic is so trippy, and its inhabitants so off-the-wall, that it takes the entire episode to break down 4 characters. So grab a lampshade and get inside a cardboard box - listen now!

  • Created by Sam Kieth and Jim Sinclair – debuted in Primer #5 as Max the Hare, but the Maxx as we know him debuted in Darker Image #1 (March 1993)

  • Story told through full use of the medium – flashbacks, changing art style depending on location & POV

  • Julie Winters, a free spirited social worker, is beaten, raped, and left to die by a man she helps – she copes by hiding in her subconscious in a place called the Outback – there, Julie is the Leopard Queen, a powerful goddess

  • A few weeks later, she hits a homeless man (Dave) with her car, and instead of helping him, she leaves him in an alley and covers him with trash – this opens a link to her Outback, and a lampshade passes through the barrier – the lampshade then covers the homeless man, giving him a costume and creating a link between him and Julie

  • Three years later, which is where the series picks up, the man (now known as Maxx) is working as a mostly unsuccessful hero who Julie repeatedly bails out of jail – neither can explain their connection, but they feel strongly towards one another

  • Mr. Gone, a serial killer/rapist, has a telepathic connection to Julie and harasses her repeatedly – Maxx fights him in both the real world and the Outback – he is later beheaded by Julie, but manages to survive through his connection to the Outback

  • Julie, meanwhile, is working with a troubled teenager named Sarah, whose mother is concerned about Sarah and doesn't want her to grow up like her father – Mr. Gone

  • Julie becomes pregnant, and learns the truth about Mr. Gone – while she was a child, Mr. Gone was known to her as "Uncle Artie", who told her amazing stories about visiting Australia – these stories manifested as Julie's Outback – now that Julie knows the truth, she can begin reconciling her past, and her Outback dissipates, leaving Maxx essentially powerless

  • Comic takes a 10 year jump, and now focuses on Sarah, who has her own Maxx (Norbert), as she begins to reconcile with her repentant father – she has to battle a murderous escapee from her own Outback (Iago, a banana slug), and needs the help of Julie and Dave

  • Maxx – uncertainty of who he is and his connection to Julie

  • Julie – lifestyle indicates some repression and/or PTSD from the sexual assault – treats Maxx well out of guilt (29:36)

  • As a teen, he saved Ilyana from a runaway tractor, and discovered he had the ability to turn his body into organic steel

  • Joined the X-Men when Professor Xavier put together a team of mutants to rescue the original X-Men on Krakoa, and stayed as a member of the team

  • At one point, he helped save the Fall People in the Savage Land, and started a brief romantic relationship with a woman named Nereel, that resulted in a child named Peter, although Colossus doesn't know he's the father

  • Later started a relationship with Kitty Pryde, but ended things shortly thereafter

  • Temporarily paralyzed during battle with Riptide, and was unable to return to human form for a time

  • After Ilyana dies from the Legacy Virus, Colossus joins Magneto's Acolytes for a while

  • Rejoined the X-Men

  • Sacrificed himself to spread cure to Legacy Virus – later revealed that his body was stolen by an alien to experiment on him – rescued by X-Men and restarts relationship with Kitty until she sacrifices herself to save the Earth from Breakworld

  • World War Hulk – battles Hulk, who breaks his arms while in metal form

  • Gains the powers of the Juggernaut for a while after Cyttorak takes them back from Cain Marko – Magik offers herself, but Piotr intercepts

  • Then gains the power of the Phoenix Force during Avengers vs. X-Men, only to lose it when he and Ilyana battle each other – Ilyana reveals that was part of her plan all along, because she wanted him to feel pain & regret – she frees him of Cyttorak's influence while in Limbo, and he told her the next time they met, he would kill her

  • Became a member of the original Teen Titans, and dated Donna Troy before they broke up

  • Famously became addicted to heroin in "Snowbirds Don't Fly" in 1971 – abandoned by Ollie and taken care of by Black Canary until he got clean

  • Fell in love with villain Cheshire, and they had a daughter (Lian) that Roy didn't know about until much later

  • Rejoined the Titans and adopted the name Arsenal – after the Titans broke up, he lead a group called the Outsiders for a while

  • Joins the Justice League under the name Red Arrow, until the villain Prometheus cuts his arm off, and the Electrocutioner blows up Star City, killing Lian – with a cybernetic arm built by Cyborg, he goes to the prison and kills the Electrocutioner – has temporary heroin relapse

  • New 52 – Lian no longer exists and his arm is intact, and he is now good friends with Jason Todd – now merely an alcoholic instead of a recovering drug addict, he is a member of the Outlaws – killed in a rehab center by Wally West
