It’s been 100 years since the publication of the Queen of Crime’s first novel, “The Mysterious Affair at Styles”– the book that introduced Hercule Poirot to the world. Hereby join me as I talk about what we love about the novel and there’s more content to come, I mean who wouldn’t wanna hear more of Agatha Christie’s timeless stories and her unique characters. A little piece of whimsy, some light reading before bed. I always read before I sleep. It's the default go-to for sleeping. And lately it’s been Stephen King's series of books featuring Holly Gibney, one of his finest characters created that goes to sleep with me. (I.e. rereading ‘Mr Mercedes’. ‘Finders Keepers’. ‘End of Watch’. ‘The Outsider’. ‘If It Bleeds’. -Rec.!) and in the end I share a thankyou note/story from my recent journey.

This episode opens with my review on the adaptation of "little women"(so very glad that young women nowadays are introduced to these stories in this way. And how when adaptations done right could help young readers to open a book they might otherwise overlooked.) After that, TOTD “thoughts of the day”: the #FreeBritney movement! Have you watched the documentary? Honestly the documentary itself is not very good xD just O K but decent enough to spark much more in-depth discussion of the absolute misogyny that permeates Britney Spears’ rise and fall.. and we know there is still so much to fix. *****I have been watching horror movies for as long as I can remember. and i promised i would share some J-Horror recommendations.. So here's the list:

1. BATTLE ROYALE (2000)

In a dystopian future, kids are killing each other, there’s a lot going on:bullets, crossbows, axes, and neck explosions. It’s like a teen slasher film but more than that, the characters and their relationships are surprisingly deep.\

2. Ju-On: The Grudge(2000/2003)

It stoked the fires of the early 2000s J-Horror wave. You must've watched or at least heard of it: the curse is contagious. If you enter the house, you're cursed. If you come in contact with a cursed person, you're cursed. And once you're cursed it's only a matter of time until the ghosts find and kill you. 

3. Dark Water (2002)

Although Dark Water suffers from a few horror movie-logic flaws,this is the first horror movie that made me cry actual human tears so there yu have it. 

4. The Ring /リング/Ringu( 1998)

ok let's have it, If you want to trace the trend of Western remakes (and general obsession with) Japanese horror movies, Ringu is your patient zero. it also paved the way for more sequels.

Ahh you know how horror movies gave me trust issues: By the time I thought the movie was over and the evil was laid to rest — I finally let out that breath that I’d been holding for the majority of the movie. But it was all a lie. Because just when I thought Ringu was over, Sadako crawled of the TV set and killing a horrified Ryuji , the camera zooming in on his wide, panicked eyes. Many thoughts ran through my head as the scene took place...

5. Onibaba (really old): 

sex death and long grasss. Notable for Kiyomi Kuroda's eerily beautiful black-and-white cinematography, Onibaba is among the most visually striking Japanese films of its period(quote). i mean it crafts a horror movie that drills into the core of our humanity.

6. トイレの花子さん / HANAKO-SAN/school mystery/ Seven Mysteries (七不思議) is a common trope in Japanese schools consisting of supernatural stories and happenings in school. 

Kamome Gakuen also has a set of 7 mysteries. Out of all 7, Hanako is the 'boss'. It maintains balance in the relationship between supernaturals in the school and humans.

*****The list doesn't stop here but i will ..just research for these amazingly well-made films, I thought I was going to pass out lol

Oddities.Dying message.Resolution & takeaways// How do you like this case? Mega or meh?this was one of these “nice and fun setting in the beginning but after the victim get killed the tension raised” eh? Anyway with the rewatch party I aimed for finding the scariest case xx many emotional turmoil to come tho, hopefully you’d laugh, cry, be scared, annoyed but mostly relieved etc. here. Alpine Hut in the Snowy Mountain Murder Case (雪山山荘殺人事件), the 46th episode of Detective Conan anime was originally aired on February 3, 1997. A brutal crime- like I said, it encapsulated the show’s spirit at least these early episodes. Enjoy~ (spoiler alert: at’06:00 I mentioned that ending of Edgar Allan Poe's 1841 short story "The Murders in the Rue Morgue")

The case we covered last week reminded me and got me wanting to bring back this episode I did in 2020. I know It's easy to say "you define your own worth" when you were never judge by the way you look.it's too idealistic to say that other people's judgement don't affect you when we live in a society with rigid beauty standards .. this particular episode is mainly my “answer” to a survey stating that 2/3 of the girls do not have high body-esteem because of the influence of the social media platforms such as Instagram.I think it furthers the conversation and brings awareness. So give it a listen.

Karaoke Box Murder Case (カラオケボックス殺人事件) is the 42nd episode of Detective Conan anime and originally aired on December 16, 1996. (?!) It speaks a lot of how obsessed with DC I was back then to instantly recall plot points and characters from so many years ago and taught the kid me plastic surgery is just a total waste lol there's certain images seared into my young mind.

Anyway the truth’s weight of what’s happening would dawn on the culprit here and she’s clearly devastated.
